Why Viber fails to recognize my contacts as Viber users?

Your friend has Viber installed on his mobile phone and you have him on your contact list. But Viber still does not recognize him as a Viber user so you cannot establish a free call or send him a free text message. Well, you’ll have to count on a scenario like this one because it is possible in practice. The most probable cause is a different number format in your address book and the way your friend activated the Viber account.

If you have this problem, find a person who undoubtedly has Viber on the “All” contact list. Enter their details, change the digit, save and exit. Then enter their contact again, change the digit back to the original, the ”correct” number, save and exit. Wait for about 10 minutes and see if the person is now recognized as a Viber user.

If this doesn’t work, please try dialing the number manually in its FULL format (including the “+” sign, the country code, area code, etc.) through the Viber DialPad.

Actually, this problem has been known for decades. It used to ocurr already on the old mobile phones (your friend is calling and the phone does not recognize him as your contact). The best practice to avoid it is to have your contacts registered with full number format (+country code number).

        Viber keeps telling me I need an Internet connection when I already have a wifi connection, every other app that requires internet works compeletly fine except for viber. When I uninstall & reinstall viber forgets my “Viber Contacts” when all the digits were just as they were before. Somehow some way it works then messes up again. This is the third time, I’m sick and tired of it! Whenever I’m in dire need of viber it messes up. Enough! I’m in Kentucky, USA, using an iPhone4 on AT&T.

          We are very sorry to hear that. Is either of the WiFi networks both sides are using are behind a router or a Firewall?
          In order to use Viber behind a firewall, make sure the following ports are open (ingoing AND outgoing):
          TCP: 5242 + 4244
          UDP: 5243 + 9785

    Why after i succesfuly have installed Viber, my Galaxy sais that this “Service disconnected” (Viber)!
    Please, help me !
    Note:
    -I have installed several time succesfuly but for every time didn’t work and removed it.
    -My friends see mee like a Viber, call me but I received no sound or vibration, nothing!
    -On my contacts all my friends wich I know that they had installed Viber, I didn’t see them

          You are probably on Vodafone, right?

          Unfortunately, Vodafone Romania decided to block Viber on their 3G network, and there is not much we can do :(

          Try contacting your provider and demand answers.

          Alternately, you can try using a VPN connection. For more details, google it and find more people in your network who will guide you how to do it.

    most of my numbers do have the country code. so y is viber not picking them up. the known problem i am having your solution does not fix it. you should change so that all formats with or without country code works.

    i am on vodafone new zealoand and am trying to connect via wifi. which should bypass any restrictions from vodafone. as i know other countries vodafone blocks it.

    if vodafone can also affect the wifi and not allow viber then thats a bad thing as wifi is not controlled by them but my isp.

    I have orcon at home and i tested also on my friends vodafone wifi she can use vober there. still the users dont work.

      We don’t know of any special problems in NZ – numbers should work both when adding/dialing them with or without the country code (that’s not the source of the problem you are describing).

    Hi, I deleted the Viber app from my iphone this morning as since yday morning I could not send or receive text messages. The text preview would appear on my phone but when I clicked to go in and read the full mesages the messages weren’t there. And I failed to be able to send any texts through. After deleting the app this morning (without deactivating first), I reinstalled it but no Viber contacts were visible. I tried your suggestion of changing a number of a known Viber user and changing back but to no avail. How can I get up and running again with the contacts I know have Viber? Thanks in advance.

      I rectified it by going in to Viber and ringing a contact I know is on Viber, but by dialling number manually. This has somehow pinged up all my Viber contacts again. Thanks, I should have tried all of your previous responses to others first. Hopefully that has fixed it properly.

    Hi,
    I refreshed Viber and I lost all my contacts. No contact is shown anymore under the Viber application – no friends with Viber or without Viber. None, I mean not even a single soul in the “All”tab. Therefore I cannot call anyone through this app. I tried to deactivate the app, uninstall, install again. Activation code arrived, it was successfully accepted, app activated, asked access to my phonebook – then nothing. No contatcs. Even tried to install an older version from a previous backup from iTunes. None of it worked. This new version of Viber has a tendency to randomly be switched off with no reason too.
    I use an Iphone 4 32GB, with iOS 5. Please help. As I searched in forums, this issues is quite common in the last couple of days.
    I am looking forward to hearing from You, guys.

      Almost identical problem here, on the same phone, that happened immediately after ‘updating.’ I’ve emailed other viber users to see if Viber is down at the moment.
      For me, I can add a ‘internet connection is required’ error, however that is clearly not the case. Same issue with contacts, though for me it hints at working for about 2 seconds then jumps back to ‘enter your phone #.’

      I’ve quit the app, restarted the phone, re-installed…

      hope this gets fixed ASAP.

      Same problem here, no contact in the contact tab, but i can manually call my brother using the keypad and also can get his message and reply back but instead of showing his name , it just a number. and no one is in the viber contact list, please help

        1 – No, I see all contacts with Viber least this person, who only see in all contacts, but it says you do not have Viber. Yesterday, I was sending text message to him and suddenly, the other person does not have Viber.
        2 – How does the test version? The problem is that it is a telephone company and teh conversation with this person contains confindencial information.

      At any rate, we are about to release a fixed version within the next several days. Once it’s available, please try it out and let us know if the problem is resolved.

    I’m getting an error message “This contact no longer has Viber installed. Send regular SMS message instead?”

    iPhone 4 (not upgraded to IOS5 yet). Viber updated, apps closed, phone restarted.

    Can receive Viber message, and it seems to be intermittent – managed to send one test message to a contact, then subsequent messages kept getting that error message.

    Update: think I fixed it – the original contact I was having trouble with had two mobile number entries the same (both with + country code etc), so I deleted one of them, the contact name disappeared and was just the number, but messaging worked, and I cleared history, and started from scratch – works ok now.

    iphone 3GS no JB. Since the last update (2 days ago) in my viber contact list i still have contacts in “All” but no more contacts in “Viber”. and i am asked to invite people to join Viber (people that actually have viber app). i changed a digit and save and rechanged a digit on a specific contacted waited 10 minutes and it didn’t work out. i deactivated and reactivated my account but it didn’t help. what else can i try? thanks for your help

    Still a shame. VB has not been working at all for two weeks. No contActs at all: neither all nor VB. I tried to uninstall reinstall- nothing’s helped. No update has been available ever since I still have IPhone 4, no JB and iOS5. Please, do something. This application once has been reliable, now it only makes me upset and disappointed.

      I had the same problem before but I seem to have fixed it by:-
      1) Delete Viber from iPhone then switch it off and back on again.
      2) Delete Viber from iTunes completely.
      3) Download latest Viber from Apple Store.
      4) Connect iPhone to iTunes and sync.
      5) Disconnect iPhone and run Viber to set it up.
      6) DONE! ALL back to normal.

          Well, unfortunately it did not work. I did everything as per instructed, but Viber still does not recognize any contacts. Complete emptiness – no “all” contacts, not to speak of “Viber” contacts. Funny, that my Sister was able to call me from USA, but all I saw the mobile phone number,even though that she is definitely amongst my contacts. And I was not able to return her call, using recent list. All Viber recommended was simple mobile call. Good luck with that… I guess there is some problem with Viber accessing the Contact List, but I just got sick of this for now. So this was it – I try to find another application instead of this. Better luck for You, Guys, and i wish it had been fixed.

          I did not deactivate the account before hand. During the setup I entered the same mobile number as before. Note that the country code is entered automatically by Viber, just enter the phone number. After a few seconds, an activation code is SMS’ed from Viber. Enter the code as requested and answer OK to allow Viber to use the Contacts list.

    i have same problem with my Desire (rooted). on my previous ROM it was awesome, i reinstalled rom, pick there my number, recieve activation code and Viber doesnt see my contacts (no contacts and no viber viber contacts). why?

      As a whole, Viber does not support custom ROMs, and this may be the source of the problem.

      However, please try installing Viber on a different network (WiFi and 3G) and see if the contacts are then synchronized.

      If it doesn’t work, please try the workarounds explained at the top of this page. Does it work?

        yes, but it works on custom rom (cyanogen), now i have miui. if i want to see all contacts, not only viber contacts, there is only a message “Syncing your contacts…” and nothing will happend.

    Hi, I am based in Ireland and my friend is in Canada. I recommended she join Viber and she did, but she is not showing up in my Viber contacts, and I’m not showing up in hers. We’re both using the international dialing codes for our respective countries. Any suggestions?

      Just like your regular texting/calling app on your phone, if you call someone who doesn’t have your number saved, they will simply see your number displayed on their screen as they receive your Viber call/text.

    i have iphone 4 ios 5.1 and I have installed 2.1.2.157 viber, a code was sent and activated the apps. i invited my friend that has viber. the problem is I cannot see him on my viber contact list while he can see me and he can send sms to me but I cannot see it as it is mention that to be able to see it I need to upgrade the viber? i have the latest one.

    Thanks for the article. This helped. My girlfriend is in Brazil and registered her number without the country code, while my contact list included it. I just added an ‘other’ number to her contact without the country code and she showed up.

    I have installed viber 2.1.2.157 on my Iphone 3Gs, i can successfully make free calls with all contacts except my fiance who has the same viber version on his Iphone 4. When i try to call him, viber says : “contact has an older version of viber, to place this call, contact needs to upgrade viber to the latest version. do you wish to send a message instead?”
    please note that he has the same version and same issue when calling me only. we tried to reinstall viber, deactivate our accounts and activate them again with no success.
    please help!

      If you both indeed have the latest version, then this is a strange problem.

      I would recommend you to try to reinstall 2.1.2 from AppStore again on top of the existing version (meaning – do not uninstall). See if it helps.

      If it still doesn’t, then our upcoming Viber 2.1.3 might solve your issue (released to AppStore within the next several days). I would appreciate if you could report back to me if 2.1.3 solved the problem, and if not – I will try to assist you further.

          - Deactivate Viber on both phones (inside Viber go to “More” tabs, and you’ll see this option there).

          - Install Viber on both phones again from AppStore, and see what happens now.

    I have a Samsung Galaxy s2, i installed viber on it 20 times .
    It’s not working.
    i downloaded viber from android market, then i recived the sms with the code, the phone accept the code directly, i enter to viber, and after 2 min, it’s says : you must configure viber again, and if i put again the code is not working. I did this , install and unistall 20 times.
    It’s not working, i realy don’t know what to do more.

        I tryed to reboot the phone, is not working. About the ROM i don’t know what to say, i bought the phone from a friend, and he told me the phone is neverloked. i use a sim from COSMOTE network from Romania.

          You register to Viber just fine, the app loads and you see the inside of Viber. Then after 10-20 seconds you are thrown back to the registration page, asking you to go through the activation process all over again, and so on and so forth?

        Hi, I am removing and reinstalling everyday but it does not work, and the code always invalid. Once it has been successful this morning, but new issue come similar like Adrian Neculai’s below. After 1 minute, the system has auto deactivated and asked for new registration, and it came back to the first issue.

        Is this the global issue?

        For info I am using Android 2.3.3 Baseband I9100DXKG1 and Build Number GingerBread.DXKG3

          The sudden deactivation is a whole different problem.

          Are you using a custom ROM?

          If you are, please check your IMEI number (universal device identification number) inside the phone’s “About” page. Once you found it, please compare it with the real IMEI number that’s written on the back of your phone.

          Some custom ROMs override the original IMEI you had when you received your phone, and this is the cause to the problem. In other words, this issue is the fault of the ROM developers.     I have a friend that isn’t being recognized as a contact on my viber list and is not being recognized on my all contacts list. I dialed his number manually like suggested below and it worked we talked for hours and it was just fine, I can text him and everything but I tried to add his name to the number I had dialed because it was on my recents, but it said he was not a viber user. I checked my recently called on my iPhone not the app and his number didn’t show up, so I’m not sure wether the call was free or not. Isn’t it true that you can only make calls on viber to other viber users? I’m very confused and extremely worried because he lives in Australia and I live in america I really need help with this ASAP! thank you.

    Still not working, even after today’s update…which is 11.29. my symptom has been “not knowing any contacts, contact list empty” kinda thing so far. Now there is sg new. Here’s what happens: I updated, tried, all I got is a message. “Loading”. I uninstalled, installed again, got the activation code just fine, then…after I start the app, it’s “Loading” again. Apps does not even start.
    I still have an Iphone 4 32GB, non JB, with the latest iOS.
    Thanx for helping in advance. Apps has not been working for about 3 months now.:(

    I am in the UAE. I have installed Viber and can se my viber contacts. Also have a vpn on the iphone. Does the other side also need a vpn? I can hear the call ringing and they pick up the phone but cant hear anything. Also I cant make out if they have received my viber sms

      If the other person is in the UAE, then logic has it that they do need a VPN also. However, please note that this block is something that the UAE authorities decided about, and unfortunately there is no official solution that we can offer you as a company.

    I have android on Samsung Gio ,when i downloaded viber it showed me my friends that use Viber too ,when I call friends (from my list) who are in same country with me it work , BUT if i call a friend from another country it keep ringing for me but not notify them at all.
    I saved my contacts in other countries with the (+) and the county code
    do i have to remove the + and the code , or Viber expect it ?

      Viber should work the same whether you’re calling someone in your country, or abroad (there’s no difference). Please make sure that person abroad switches between different WiFi networks in order to find the source of the problem. Also – ask them if they manage to receive calls from other Viber users (in other words – if the problem occurs only when you call them).

      I have a HTC One X through att. It is my only means to talk to my husband who is now deployed. I live in the United States. Viber was working earlier this morning then abruptly stopped. I since then uninstalled then installed again and all day it was saying syncing not completed. It just synced the viber contacts but now its saying sending then unable to send message and when I try to call it says unavailable or being blocked. I tried it with my WIFI at home and my data use on my phone too. Both doesn’t work. How can this be fixed? Thank you

    I just upgraded my phone to a iphone 4s with my contacts transferred over by the phone store. After installing viber and entering the activation code, the app just crashes in the syncing contacts process. I have rebooted the phone, reinstalled multiple time but still the same problem. The app does not crash if I do not allow syncing contacts from my address book on initial registration process of the app. As soon as I press sync contacts again though the same problem occurrs. What should I do?

    Hi, im using LG optimus one p500 i cant seem to find my contacts when i open viber, it’s only showing two contacts which are save on my phone memory the other number saved in my simcard are not showing.

    On the other hand, my girlfriend’s contacts are all showing simcard and phone memory, when she opens viber in her phone (Samsung galaxy young). I’ve tried checking the option to show all contacts but it doesn’t work. I know that transfering my sim contact to phone will solve the problem, but since my girlfriend can view her sim contacts on viber there must be a way for me to do the same.

      First, please make sure both of you save each other’s numbers in the full, international format. Meaning he should save your number like this: +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx (including the “+” sign)
      You should save his number like this: +82-10-xxxx-xxxx (note that the “0″ right after the 82 is removed)

      If even after that you are not recognized to each other as Viber users, please try the following workaround:

      Open Viber and find your husband’s contact in the “All” contact list. To reboot synchronization, change a digit, save and exit the contact list. Open contact again, change the digit back to the original, correct number, save and exit. Wait for approximately 10 minutes and see if the contact is now recognized as a Viber user.

      If this doesn’t work, please enter Viber’s DialPad and try to manually dial the number in its FULL international format (including the “+” sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

      Please make sure neither you nor the other side are connected to networks that might be blocking Viber (for example – a router running a firewall).

      1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your routers:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)

    I installed Viber and after keying in the verification code, it never got past the white spinning wheel and the app closed itself after about a few minutes (during which I prevented the iPhone screen from going to sleep). I then deleted the app and reinstalled again, by downloading over 3G, but it didn’t work. I then tried downloading and installing with the USB cable connected to iTunes. Didn’t work.       If you add contacts to your contact list and they show up on Viber, it doesn’t require them to have you on their list as well.

    Hello, i’m running Viber 2.1.3.244 on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Everything works great, I love it and my family too… we live quite apart. However there’s just one contact that it doesn’t recognize, I’ve done everything on the troubleshooting articles and can’t seem to make it detect him.       Yes, you can still message that person.

      “Calling..” means the call is made from your phone, but not necessarily ringing on the other side. “Ringing..”, however, means the other side is online for sure and their phone is currently receiving the call.

      Your Viber identity is now the phone number with which you registered. This means that if someone wants to add you, they need to add that number.

      The reason you need a SIM card for invitation is because the invitation is actually a regular (cellular) SMS, but you’re using an iPod with no SIM card. Instead of using the invitation option through Viber, simply tell your friends to install Viber when you meet them, through Facebook, etc ;)

I live in France, and I’m trying to call my brother in Argentina, but his Viber tells him that I don’t have an account yet or the version I have is old, and the Viber I installed says me the same (even though both have the last version, and to be sure we have re-installed it). I have an iPhone and he has the last smartphone of Samsung. We cannot call the other in any direction.

      The best way to make sure you dial the number correctly is to dial/save it in its full international format, including the “+” sign (by pressing the zero key for a few seconds), country code, etc.

      So, in order to save/dial a number from Australia, you would need: +61xxxxxx…..

      1. When you re-registered Viber in France, was it with your Bulgarian SIM card? (in other words, are you Roaming?)
      2. What cellular network are you connected to in France?
      3. Have you tested Viber on both 3G and a few different WiFi networks?
      4. Are your contacts’ numbers saved in their international format, or local Bulgarian format?

      Deleting Viber alone makes it impossible to us (technically) to know whether or not that user intends to reinstall Viber later, or plans to stop using it altogether. This is why there is a wait of 45 days during which if we see no activity on the account, it is automatically deleted, and only then you will stop appearing as a Viber user to your contacts.

      The instant way to do it, however, is to deactivate Viber instead of uninstalling it. This is done through the “More” tab inside Viber.

      The number should start with the international prefix (+81 in Japan’s case), then cellular code (without the beginning “0″), then the rest of the number.

        I am based in Northern Ireland and the other person is in Australia. I added their number into my contact list with the international dialing code but it will not recognise it as a viber contact. I have tried everything I can think of without it working. I know for a fact she has viber and has used it before.

    I’ve had the most bizzaire experience on viber where I thought I was texting a particular contact but i later found out that I was communicating with a stranger who I have never met before, nor would did I have them on my contacts list. I check the name on the top bar of the screen, and then checked their contact information. the mobile number did not have viber! instead, under the same name, I had the number of that person’s landline/ home phone, and apparently this landline had viber! I am utterly confused as to how that happened… and how I happened to be texting with a landline… or someone who I didnt know (who definitely did not own that landline number either)

      Just to make sure we understand it right: inside Viber’s contact list, you have a contact whose name you know (a friend, etc.), but inside their contact details there is a completely unknown phone number you’ve never seen before?

      This happened suddenly? i.e the contact worked fine until that moment, and then suddenly it was overriden one day with the number of that stranger?

      One of the phones have an older version of Viber, and so the phones can’t communicate using Viber.

      Please make sure both users have the latest version of Viber installed from AppStore or Market. The problem should be solved after the latest version is installed on both sides :)

      To the best of our knowledge, Palestinian phone numbers take the following format:

      +970-AA-xxx-xxxx
      Where “AA” represents the cellular prefix, *exluding* the 0 in the beginning. This format is 12-digit long, and not 13-digit as you wrote.

      Please make sure the number is saved in this format in your contact list.

    I am having trouble with my contacts on Viber, I have installed Viber on my iphone and my girlfriend has viber on her samsung running on android. Both up to date versions. It will not recognise her number as a viber number, i have tried to delete a digit from her number then replace it, ive tried different versions of the number with and without international dialing code, ive tried dialing her number through the viber key pad but then it says im not connected to the internet even though i am? Its very frustrating!

      Hi,

      Seeing you wrote that you get the “no internet connection” error message, the source of the problem may be different. Have you tried testing Viber when connecting to a different WiFi network, and 3G network? Does the problem still occur on them?

      Also, what country are yo ulocated in, and which cellular network?

      It might be that the network you are connected to is blocking Viber.

      1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your routers or firewalls:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)

    My 8 month (personal) problem with Viber has been finally solved! I lost Viber’s ability to recognize contacts some 8 months ago. Now I realized the problem was never Viber, but my contacts…I mean “Groups”. To secure myself – alway better on the safe side, ain’t it? – I synchronized my contacts both trough iCloud AND with my PC (Outlook). It resulted in duble contacts, although it was not easily recognizable, becauseiPhone lmerged the two separate groups (Iphone + myPC) , appearing as one contact list. But then (after some hevy brainstorming) I extirpated those merged accounts (one by one, oh my God….), and suddenly all seems to work just fine! Viber recognizes contacts again. Sorry for my stubborness to pass the buck – it was the messed up groups/contact all way long…

      Hi,

      A Viber number should be dialed/saved exactly as you would dial/save the number in its international format.

      Meaning, for example: your husband should dial your number like this:
      +1-208-xxx-xxxx (note that the “+” sign is needed at the beginning of the number, and it can be dialed by pressing the “0″ key for a few seconds).

      Has it worked now?

    Hi! I’m in Canada and trying to chat with a friend in Australia. I have it set up as +61 xxx xxx xxxx and it shows him as having viber with the logo beside his name and as long as I text with him in the discussion that he started then it’s fine. It even shows up as his name but if I try to initiate contact with him then it tells me that he doesn’t have viber.

          The number should not contain the local Australian “0″. Once removed, it should work just fine, and we understand that it’s not indeed solved for you.

    Hi! I’m in Saudi Arabia. When I was visiting home (US), I downloaded viber on my samsung S2. My daughter was able to call me from Saudi through viber. Now that I’m back in Saudi, my daughter can still call me and I can’t seem to call her through viber and it always giving me the message saything that she’s not yet have viber. I’ve tried different formats of her saudi #. +966xxxxxxxxx and +0966xxxxxxxxx and +9660xxxxxxxxx. Nothing seems to work. I use wifi, not 3G and I kept my US viber #. What should I do?

      We understand that your sister in Germany now has a German phone number? (She registered to Viber using a German SIM card?)
      It sounds like you need to change her number to the international format. Meaning: +491787……..

        Hello, this link only contains info if the contacts are not recognized as viber contacts. My contacts which can’t receive viber messages from me are recognized from my phone as viber contacts and I can receive viber messages from them, but can’t reply. I tried also to send invitation, to update the phone numbers with the country code, but still the same. This happens only to few of my viber contacts, not all. I am in China, using China mobile, I tried both 3G and Wi-fi. My viber contacts which whom I am having problems are in Bulgaria.

          Have you checked with those specific contacts are they see YOU in their contact list? Are you (and they) running the latest version of Viber available?

    Hi I’ve been using Viber for a year and haven’t had problems until now. At first, I was using viber from China with a China Unicom acc and it worked perfectly well. Now I am in South Africa using Vodacom and I’ve started experiencing problems. One of my contacts is based in Bahrain and is also a viber user, but unfortunately, his number is not reflecting in my contacts list as a viber user. I’ve tried the method of changing one digit and then re-changing it, but to no avail as it still doesn’t show him to be a viber user. I have his number saved as +973396xxxxx. He is able to communicate with other Viber users too, just not me.

I am using an unlocked LG Optimus L3 E400 and using Viber in Switzerland to contact my partner who lives in the UK. This works fine, however I seem to be unable to now contact my other friends who have installed Viber without using the app; one friend has not updated to the latest version and I keep getting a message telling me she needs to do this before I can contact her. How can I now call her without using the app?

      Viber provides its free service only between users who have Viber installed.

      Viber synchronizes with your phone’s contact list, and automatically checks who has Viber, and then marks them as “Viber” users. This is not a result of any manual action taken by that contact :)

          We are suspecting that the authorities in Iran have decided to block Viber in some ISP’s or regions in the country, and that is why you are experiencing this issue. Unfortunately there is not much we can do to help :(

      Instructions for activating Viber on iPod/iPad/Tablet:

      1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod/Tablet.
      2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone’s number (or any other number of yours that can receive the code, for example a landline (fixed) number, a prepaid number, etc.), then confirm.
      3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
      4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod/Tablet. Viber will then be activated, and you’re good to go.

      * this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod/Tablet.
      ** Please note that Viber does not officially support iPods/iPads/Tablets yet. In the future, we plan to release fully compatible versions, but unfortunately we still don’t know when exactly it will be ready.

      Viber automatically synchronizes its contact list with the contact list of your phone.
      If your Facebook contacts are inside your native phone contact list, then Viber will automatically scan them, and a “Viber” logo will appear next to their name inside the Viber contact list.

    Hi there, I am in New Zealand and I have a Nokia 500 (Symbian operating system). When i first installed Viber a few months ago I had no problem. However a few nights ago my Viber wouldn’t let me send any messages so i deactivated it and removed it on my phone to install it again. Now that I have installed it, I have put the access code in but my contacts don’t seem to be in my Viber list, I have tried all the options from the Help menu…. any other tips would be much appreciated! :)

      It means that while you were having a Viber conversation, she received a cellular call. Automatically the call switches to the cellular call, putting the Viber call on hold.

      This is something we cannot change, since it is a built-in requirement that cellular calls get priority over any application.

    Hi I’m an android user my viber wont recognize my contact list it shows i have no contact. I have uninstalled and re installed i have deactivated and made new accounts and still nothing viber doesn’t show up in the accounts&sync settings either

    Hello I am Samsung Galaxy Young Duos user. I installed viber and it automatically took all the number from my mobile who have viber account. I even called and sms’ed a friend. but after 2 days i can’t call or sms. wen I call it says “Viber service is currently unavailable or being blocked”.

      It could be that the network you are connected to is blocking Viber’s traffic.

      1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connecting to a few different WiFi networks (in order to pinpoint the source of the problem). What are the results?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled (“forwarded”) on your routers or firewalls:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, you may contact your router manufacturer or your Internet Service Provider)

      * If it still fails, please specify what country you’re located in, and which cellular network you’re subscribed to.

    Hello, I have been using viber on my Iphone 3gs for years, no probs, but now strangly out of my 1100 contacts I only can see 78 in all contacts list. some of my contacts that are not showing in my contacts list , I still can see their names in recent calls and can contact them normally.

    Hi, l just installed viber about 2 months ago before l came to my current location.. I am staying in a remote area which has no mobile phone coverage. I am using the local free wifi to use Viber. I can send and receive message to my my friend in America.

    I can also receive message from people in Australia but l can not send messages back to them via Viber.

    The program thinks that my friends are not on Viber and requests to send an SMS notification which l can not do since l do not have any kind of mobile phone reception. I do not want to uninstal it since to reinstall it l need to receive an SMS code to activate it.

    Any ideas as to why l can not send message to my friends in Australia but l can to people overseas?

    I tried changing my friends number to +61 etc but this did not help

      hi to all, i came just to tell you how i fixed this, first just add the new contact not on phone phonebook, just go on viber, on contacts, on bottom left screen is a “+” sing, just open that and add new contacts there as to be stored on phne phonebook, then while you are on viber/contacts, just slide down until top of 1st contact in list and then more to refresh the contact…there you are, now you can have the new contact visible as viber contact free call….(if he has account)

    Hi… I have recently installed vibr. I can not add viber contcts..each time I rty, it tell me there is no internet connection, while surely internet connection is exist and working properly . I use android mobile , 3G connection. I unistalled and reinstalled it many times and still have same problem and I am sure that I approved access addressbook at the installing process. My friend see me as a viber user when I canot see any. Please feed me back

      Hi,

      Some mobile operators across the world block Viber on their 3G network. Usually this happens when users have a “simple” data plan (or a prepaid contract), meaning they didn’t pay extra for using VoIP on their 3G network.

      In order to verify this, we recommend to:
      1. Test Viber on a few different WiFi networks, and see that it works fine.
      2. Contact your cell company and confirm this with them, as well as ask friends who have the same data plan (on the same carrier) to try Viber on 3G as well.

    Hi, i am a viber user eversince i started using an iphone. It suddenly restarted on it’s own. And now i am not showing any of my contacts on it. I tried many times to switch to ‘show all contacts’ but it’s returning again to hide contacts. :(

    hey i need help please. I have been using viber for a very long time texting to Isreal and over seas. Today viber went down and I didnt know so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Now the numbers I call and text 100 times a day are not showing up. I put the number in because it never showed up in contacts is now saying this number is not a viber number. All ports are clear and everything else seems to be working fine,. I dont know what else to do.

          1. Have you tried editing the number of your contact, then editing it back?
          2. Have you and your contact tried switching between a few different WiFi networks?
          3. Have you made sure the ports are open on the WiFi network both you and your contacts are using?

    Hey, my viber deleted all my history and contacts, so I deleted viber and re downloaded it and now it won’t recognise any if my contacts as viber contacts, even though I know many of my friends have viber, I have shut down the app turned phone on and off and it still is not working, please help!

    I have tried all of the “suggestions” in the viber helpdesk menu and none of them worked. I was able to find two ‘solutions’ although there are issues with both. The first is riskier but much quicker: deactivate your account and then re-activate your account. I am not sure why this works when an uninstall/re-install doesn’t. The second is more tedious, but less risky, copy and then delete your contact that you know has a viber account from the phone’s contact list; after that open viber and add a new contact through viber copying the number copied previously. The contact that was added through viber should now appear.

      Both methods are meant to refresh the synchronization of contact list with our server.

      * Note that uninstalling/install or deactivating/reactivating Viber shouldn’t be risky at all. The only drawback of that move is the deletion of your message history, but it can be exported to a text file before you do it.

    I have moved to Italy and gotten an Italian sim card but my Australian contacts aren’t coming up as viber users in the viber contact list when I know some of them do in fact have viber. My Italian contact are coming up fine. Why is this so with the Australian numbers? Do they have to have my Italian number saved in their phone for them to come up?

      Did you reactivate with your new Italian number, or you you kept Viber with your Australian number? (simply by not reactivating).

      In general, when wanting to contact Viber contacts abroad, one needs to save/dial the contacts in their international format. So instead 04-xxxx-xxxx, they should be saved in your contact list as +61-4-xxxx-xxxx.

      Does this fix the problem for you?

    Hi. I’m pretty sure viber has a problem with al numbers in chile.
    A friend downloaded viber for the first time, then call me.
    He appeared as +56-xxxx-xxxx
    but since last year number added a leading 9, as in:
    +569-xxxx-xxxx
    so all my contacts from that country don’t show up.
    (please don’t give me workaround of manually editing 235 contacts)

    Am I right with pointing out this problem?

      Hi Raul,

      As far as we (Viber) understand, what happened was that numbers in Chile received an extra “9″ (as you described). However, users who registered to Viber before that change took place, really had a number of this format: +56-xxxx-xxxx

      Those users keep the +56-xxxx-xxxx identity in Viber because the “9″ was not added to those numbers (it was only added in their cellular numbers, by the cellular companies).

      Unfortunately, the only way to solve it is: users who registered to Viber before the addition of the “9″, should deactivate and reactivate their Viber account, this time with the “9″. Now, they should appear fine in your country list, with the “9″.

      * Note that deactivating your Viber account causes your message history to be deleted. We recommend to use the “export message history” option before deactivating.

        you know 95% of users won’t delete and reinstall viber on their own… making viber very unpopular in chile (I’m aware this market is probably uninteresting to you)

    I’m having a similar problem too. I have been using viber for over a year in Iran but since last month that I have installed the new version over 90% of my contacts are not shown in my list! And only 5 of them are listd and can be contacted, for the rest that I used to contact previously I recieve a massage telling me that they are not a viber member and prompts me to replace a regulare call instead! I reinstalled it for several times but the problem seems to esist… :-(
    Please help this is very frustrating.

    Yesterday I was using viber normally to text my sister and friends in Brazil (I’m currently in Sweden). Suddenly today I can’t text or call anybody free because Viber does not recognize my Brazilian contacts as viber users anymore. I made absolutely no changes to viber and neither did my friends in Brazil. So why all out of the blue they are not recognized by viber as viber users anymore?? How can I solve this problem?

      Go on Viber > Go on the 2nd tab on top, the one with the symbol of a silhouette of a person > On the tabs below, click the one with symbol of a silhouette of a person with a “+” sign > Choose where to add the contact e.g. phone contact > Fill out the details > Save. Your welcome. :)

      Though if you save the new number on your phone, using your phone’s dial pad (not the one on Viber), it will automatically register in your Viber list.

    I recently got a new phone and I installed Viber as normal. I have my account and that is fine but I was included in 2 group chats and messages but only my group chats appeared up and NO CONTACTS OR LOGS OR MESSAGES at all throughout. I have no problem re- adding my contacts again but my contacts names ( just phone numbers) do not appear or their pictures and I have difficulty working out who it is! How do I fix this problem??

      Conversations do not transfer from phone to phone. When you reactivated your Viber account on your new phone, it automatically deactivated Viber on your old phone, deleting your messages. If messages have not been backed up (learn how to do so here: http://bit.ly/O89ozh ), you will not be able to retrieve them.

    I just recently got a Nexus 5 Android phone and literally had just started using Viber on it within the past month to stay in touch with a friend from Portugal (I’m in the US). We’re able to send IMs back and fourth (They had to initiate it so it’d show up in my conversations tab so I could reply) but they have a “Viber Out” description under their name in my normal contacts while in Viber while not being in my Viber’s actual contacts.

    Despite syncing both my Google and Viber accounts multiple times, adding their number (Country code/Area code/their cell number) correctly to my phones contacts or “people”, multiple times at that, they still won’t show up on my actual Viber “contacts”. However, for them I do. Is there any solution to this problem or maybe it’s just a country incompatibility (I imagine that would be extremely unlikely)?

    Any help solving this would be extremely appreciated! It’s driving me insane not being able to figure it out!

    Hey guys, I’ve had the same problem with Viber which I noticed just now and luckily I have already fixed it – and fast. I have fixed it in a different way, a FASTER WAY, than the one suggested in the article above and I want to share it with you guys. It might be helpful and hopefully, it will fix this problem of yours, too (for those who have had tried the suggested solution in the article above but didn’t work for them).

    First things first. What is my phone, what Android Version is it running, and what Version of Viber does it have? My phone is a Samsung S4, a Korean phone, not original, running on Android Version 4.2.2, and has the latest version of Viber as of now. I believe it is not jailbreaked though I have this Kinguser App pre-installed.

    How did I notice this problem with Viber? Before I even noticed such problem, things we’re running fine on Viber and those in My Contacts who are Viber Users are showing as Viber Users. No pro-blem-o. But then, my sister borrowed my phone a while ago to message our Mom on Viber (my sister does not have Viber and she can’t install it because her phone (I think) does not meet the requirements to install such), so I deleted some private messages of mine on Viber (just to be sure she won’t be able to read those lol). I even deleted the whole conversation actually. Then when I got my phone back, I wanted to message this person of whom I deleted the whole conversation beforehand. BUT then, this person doesn’t show as a Viber User and I can’t message this person on Viber for free. Even those whom I know are Viber Users aren’t recognized as Viber Users. Just one of the contacts I added recently on my phone storage only is the single one who is recognized as a Viber User (so I’m guessing the solution suggested above in the article might work for some). So I tried to search a solution on google and here I am.

    So, how did I fix it? As suggested above, I have this practice of saving my contacts in full format (see article above for more details). So before doing the steps above (which will be easier for me as I have my contacts’ numbers in full format), I decided to arrange my contacts in phone storage first. Why? I have my phone contacts synced with my google+ accounts and I have 2. And I save my new contacts to my phone storage only and I want my phone to be tidy and organized so I decided to delete those in the google+ accounts first then importing all my contacts from my phone storage so as not to have 2 copies of those contacts already in store. BUT then, after I deleted my google+ contacts, even my phone contacts, most of them, got deleted. Good thing is that after I deleted the contacts on my google+ account, I got this notification in my Access Tray, “too many deletes..”, something like that (not sure if same applies on different phones). Then I had the option of undoing the deletes and I did. And phew! I got my phone contacts back. I then checked on my Viber again, and surprisingly, things we’re fixed. Viber Users in My Contacts are now recognized like before. :D
