Viber is a bit like Skype, but better. You have to install it on your iPhone, start the application, and you are ready to call other Viber users. You don’t have to create an account and the applicaton does not have to be on when someone is calling you. All that you are paying for is the data traffic if you are connected over 3G, LTE, or another internet-over-cell service. When connected to Wi-Fi, calls are virtually free.
The installation process is short and easy. Just get Viber from iTunes or the App Store and install it, or you can click on this link: www.viber.com/dl. It is a totally free application and always will be.
When you first start, Viber will ask you to enter your iPhone number and after that you will receive an activation code. Enter it into Viber and the installation is done
The application is completely designed as an original phone application. Favorites and Contacts are synchronized with your iPhone address book, while the Keypad and even the call screen look a lot like your original iPhone apps. The color is slightly different, and on some screens you will see the Viber logo. This way you are working with familiar interface, but still able to quickly tell if you are using your phone or Viber.
People in your address book who also are on Viber are marked with a Viber sign. When you call them, for now on, the calls are free, just like Skype. When you click to call people who are not on Viber, the standard iPhone interface will show up, and everything will be as usual.
Skype running in the background was a dream. When the iOS 4.0 come out, we saw that dream came out to be a disappointment.
Viber is much more closer to an elegant VoIP on mobile device solution, because you can use it to operate both your phone’s calling and Viber calling without having to switch between interfaces. Just go and install it and you’ll become a fan too.
