Viber for BlackBerry First Look Photo

Viber for BlackBerry has status “in works” for a while. Actually, from the beginning of all this Viber buzz. Well, there was big rush about Viber 2.0 for iPhone and Viber for Android beta program, so it seemed that Viber for Blackberry will never come to focus.

Today, Viber Social Media Manager announced that:

After the long wait and expectations, in the past several weeks we started focusing on the development of Viber on Blackberry, and we are now excited to give you a first look.



What to say? It looks OK, just as Viber do. What worries me is that it is showing a text messaging feature, which is much easier technology than the actual voice calls.
On the other hand, there is also one photo inside this conversation. Does it means that we can expect photos sending (some kind of MMS) on the iPhone and Android soon too?

Another good news is that the Viber for Android Beta with closed group of testers is at final stage. It means that Viber for Android Beta will soon become free for download without any subscriptions and waiting for mail invitations. Thumbs up for this one too!

I hope that will hear more good news soon.

However, Viber’s VoIP (calling) system is much trickier since there are limitations in Blackberry itself that make VoIP very complex, but we’re working hard these days to overcome these obstacles and also include VoIP :)

      The reality, as mentioned below, is that we are doing our best but we can’t guarantee dates. If we guaranteed a specific date, and then we would encounter a technological barrier, it would disappoint our fans even more. Trust us – we want it released just as you do, and once we have news on that you’ll know about it :)

    I noticed that this article was originally posted back in mid-July. It’s now coming up to 6 months since we heard that Viber is coming to BB ‘very soon’. There are many of us that are eager to get our hands on it, and I’m sure that upon release, Viber will be an excellent addition to our BBs. But are we going to hear ‘coming very soon’ for another 6 months?

            well since ya´ll taking 4 ever to release the app and I can´t use it for a 4 OS then there no need for me to use to app! since when ya´ll be saying it will be release by a certain time? now that´s a bad service right there!! if I can use it for a 4OS bb then there no point of me to use this Viber service…you ppl only think about the upper version on bb you dont think in having it for all type of version OS!! if it´s like that I wouldnt recommened no one I know that has bb!!

Unfortunately, in the advancing technological world, we can’t afford to support all devices and versions of operating systems. We must prioritize some of them and devote our resources and manpower to supporting them first. This isn’t different from any other application developers in the world today.

    In a way, I wish the great team at Viber did not announce any plans for development of Viber for BB, and instead just launched it when ready!

    That would have reduced a lot of frustration for a lot of BB owners over the past year.

        Thanks for the reply. The greatest problem that these announcements have, is that BB users will also begin to lose confidence in on-going support for the application.

        Whilst the app is ‘free’ I am certain that there are plans to fully monetise in the future. (I say ‘fully’ as value-add propositions are probably all in place already).

        In terms of a PR exercise, this thread is a bit of a disaster, and does nothing more than create frustation with a potentially large user base. (=negative opinions=little word of mouth).

        As someone that has over 20 years of experience in advertising, marketing and PR, I would say that it’s best to close this thread, and then re-market from scratch, and only when there is a defined launch date.

        But at the very very very least, define a date.

        Purely my thoughts!

        Unfortunately we can’t provide accurate numbers – as a relatively young company, our resources are flexiable and divided between the different platforms dynamically.

        Rest assured – our dedicated BB development is working hard (and will continue to do so. We are in the last days of beta testing, and presently compiling reviews from our beta testers. We hope to close this stage by the end of this month, and then finally release Viber for BlackBerry [beta] to AppWorld for all to download.

    My Blackberry Curve 8520 OS5, doesnt have 3G. I read that Viber can be only used with 3G or Wi-Fi. My BB has “gprs”(another internet). I can use Opera, Whatsapp and other Apps fine. Will I be able to use Viber with gprs? (and delete whatsapp from my mobile, of course jejej)

      In general, Viber’s messaging should work on GPRS, but please note that Viber does not *officially* support GPRS connections (only WiFi or 3G/4G).

      Viber should be released soon – once that happens, we’ll be happy to receive feedback from you in order to know if it works fine on GPRS :)

    OS7.1 devices have built in wi-fi calling.
    BB10 is on its way. Makes any sense struggling with viber on older BB’s at all?
    Anyways it is too late for it.
    (Devs should focusing on BB10 engine now, if take their work seriously.)
