Viber for Android Beta is moved to May

Updated on July 20, 2011
Viber is available for download at Android Market.
Check out the Viber for Android Beta Review

It seems that the public beta will be available soon. Viber tweeted that the Android Beta version will be available in some two weeks.

Why Viber for Android is so late?
Public beta was initially planed for end of the February. Latter, it was moved to March and after that, “bang!”. It just snapped, and postponed android beta period to an unknown.
Android is a good platform, but it is stretched much more than iOS is. Android is working on different hardware which is made by different manufacturers. That usually produces problems. Especially if you are trying to optimize application performance and work with low level functionality.
It means that if you are trying to make an excellent application for Android, you’ll have to spend much more time for testing it and adjusting it for different devices.

Lets hope this time it is for real ;)

oh common, i heard this way to often. The truth is, the viber team was too busy to develop the viber 2.0 client for iOS introducing a message feature that just tries to copy functionality of Whatsapp and similar messengers. Of course if they prioritize that, the Android client has to suffer.

Of course, they were not even able to deliver this one bug free, despite alle the marketing claims about “we want to deliver just a perfect app”.

Yeah and they were busy posting on every thread in the internet… “Hello This isViber Development Team” blabla

They think they are pretty clever in marketing but it looks just like a lot of false sweet talk. They still invite people to participate in the beta, even they have already enough people for ages…

Actually im not really sure anymore if it helps if all the Android users jump on, as the quality got worse lately so i have to switch back to Skype most of the time.

    Hi,
This is a representative of Viber.

Yes, the release of Viber for Android was delayed beyond expected, but we preferred optimizing our product to more and more devices, rather than releasing it buggy and disappointing. The reason for all those testers we need is because we want to reach out to different devices before we officially release the app to Android.

If you have any other concrete questions, please feel free to ask and I will reply shortly.

    Regards, Viber Media.
