Viber desktop – PC installation

Installing Viber desktop on your computer is pretty easy. Just like any other application, it consists of few steps. In this case, steps are very simple.

But before you start installing it on the computer make sure you meet the system and hardware requirements. And yes, you must have Viber installed on your mobile first to be able to use Viber desktop.

Minimum hardware requirement for desktop computers are: dual core processor, 1 GB RAM, microphone and speakers for voice calls, webcam for video calls, AD2P compatible Bluetooth receiver for BT devices.

Minimum system requirement for desktop computers are:

- for Windows users: Windows XP Service pack 3 and above; Windows Vista; Windows 7 or Windows 8 (RT is not supported);

- for Mac users: OSX 10.7 and above.

If you meet those system and hardware requirements on your desktop computer, make sure you have the following Viber mobile versions prior desktop registration to be able to use Viber desktop:

- Viber 3.0 for Android

- Viber 3.0 for iPhone

- Viber 2.4 for Blackberry

- Viber 2.2.3 for Windows Phone 8 (partly compatible, might encounter sync issues)

- Viber for Windows Phone 7, S40/S60 & Bada: do not require a minimum Viber version (partly compatible, might encounter sync issues).

If both, system and hardware requirements, are fulfilled, you should be done with your installation in few minutes…or less…

Installation procedure
Download installation file on your computer and run it. You can download it from Viber’s official site using this link.

In case you are not the admin on you computer then please ‘right click’ on the file and choose ‘Run as an admin’ where you will be asked to have the admin password.

When Viber launches, it prompts a question. Hit “Yes” and you’ll be asked for phone number.

type in your phone number (without the country code) and click 'Continue'...

You’ll receive a four digit code on your Viber mobile. Type it in. Read and accept the Viber User License Agreement and click ‘Enter Viber’.

hit “Enter Viber” and installation is complete!

After completing the installation, Viber desktop will automatically sync your contacts with contacts stored in your mobile Viber.

    I cannot find a similar question in the FAQ. I want to deactivate ONLY the pc viber account which is synced with my iphone. I see this is possible in the settings menu however the alert message is confusing. Can you please confirm: If I deactivate the desktop viber will this delete all the viber content of the iphone or any specific part of the content like the contacts for example.       Hi there,

      When you deactivate Viber through Desktop, it will only deactivate Viber Desktop (meaning your mobile app will not be harmed at all).

    hi there,
    When I go to install all goes well until I say ok to terms and conditions and click on install. After that , im brought to Downloading installation files box, and nothing else happens and it eventually hangs. I have to use a proxy server , does an explicit reference need to be made for this?

      What device are you using?

      In general, Viber does not officially support proxies, and so this could be the source of the problem here :/

        Thanks for the prompt response, Sorry, viber for desktops ( so its a windows 7 pc in my office)
        It seems to assume no proxy even to download the install files, so it could well work afterwards, however Icant get that far :) It should work fine from home ok, but it kinda limits it from a business sense if we cant connect to download it.

          The download from our homepage at http://www.viber.com should be using port 80/8080 as usual (meaning, if the proxy allows you to download any other files from the Web, it shouldn’t prevent you from downloading Viber’s installation file).

          However, if you believe that it is only the download itself that’s the problem, you may download the app at your home PC, then take the installation files to your office computer.

          In the future we will consider adding special connection settings, including proxy support. However, we still don’t have any news about it :(

    I installed Viber on my iPad (already had it on my iPhone). I didn’t realize that you couldn’t have it with the same number on both until it didn’t work and then I came to this website. It is more important that I have it on my phone! I will happily deactivate it on my iPad. How do I go about doing this so it will work on my phone again?

      You simply need to register to Viber again on your phone, with the same device.

      If you’d like to also use Viber on your iPad, you may use a different number to register to Viber (for example your home number, an old pre-paid number, etc.)

    I installed viber for desktop on my samsung laptop with windows 7 ultimate. Chat feature is ok and sending pictures but there is no audio or video when i call or receive a call. The call time is working but i can’t see or hear anything from the other end. Pls help.

    I successfully installed the desktop app and I already have it installed on my phone (I did so weeks ago). However, the “getting started” bit is not going right. I type in my number and it keeps asking me to install Viber on my phone – BUT IT’S ALREADY INSTALLED! I’ve been trying to do this with good wifi access so it shouldn’t be the connection that’s the problem.

    Can I activate the account on android with the help of the account which still active on windows?

      Unfortunately there’s no way to do it :(

      Viber Desktop can be installed after Viber mobile is installed, and not the other way around.

      The only way to have Viber synchronized on both your mobile and your desktop is to reinstall it on your mobile, and then reinstall it on your Desktop (however messages that had already been received on your Desktop will be unfortunately deleted).

    I installed viber desktop hoping it will help my viber android account to recognized my contacts. I updated my android SO and reinstalled viber, but this time it has not recognized my contacts. It does not send any sms with the activation code, neither for the android app nor for the desktop app. At first I thought it was because of the format of my phone number, but it wasn’t. I tried different combinations and it did not work for any of them.

    Is the code activation process working? I remember it worked before because it is not the first time I unistalled-reinstalled viber in my android phone.

    Do I need to wait until viber finally finds my contacts or send an activation code?

    Hi,
    I can’t install Viber on my laptop with Windows 7 Professional. After I accept terms it starts downloading installation files and it passes for few times and after 10-20 min it stops complitly. Can you help me with this problem?

    I am using viber for a long time. I used it connecting to via a 3G dongle. But now I am using my hostel LAN connection to conect to the internet. But only viber couldn’t connect through it. I can use skype or other aplications. But i love viber and i want to make it work soon. I have to plug my dongle when i want to use viber. Please be kind enough to give me a solution for getting rid of this issue as the 3G coverage isn’t good in my area.

    Address : 172.16.30.20
    Port : 8080

      Viber’s ports are:

      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      We might enable port 80 or 8080 in the future, but for now unfortunately we don’t have any official news about it.

    While installing on a PC joined to a domain, the installation bar runs to 100% and the window closes. No entry in the Start menu.

    Tried it thrice. Confusing.

    Going into the details I found what was happening: The first step prompts for the “Run As” as normal users do not have the privileges needed to install software. When I enter the domain administrator’s userid & password, Viber gets installed in the admin’s Local Settings only. i.e. if I login as Admin, I see Viber. OTOH, the logged in non-admin user never sees Viber.

    when installing Viber for Desktop on my laptop it starts downloading installation files. but it takes so much time, more than 30 minutes to download about 17% (once it reached the half) and stops downloading and starts it again from the beginning. Once, I left it for about 3 hours to download the files, but that was useless.
    I usually download a 100 Megabyte file and it takes about 25 minutes … I don’t think installation files are more bigger than that.
    this is technicla problems of my laptop,,, maybe help you.
    Laptop : Toshiba l655-13X
    core i3 .. 2300Ghz .. 3 GB RAM
    Windows 7 64bit.

    internet connection: type : DSL .. Speed : 512 kbps.

          We are not quite sure what login you are referring to. After you submit the ticket successfully, you should be directed to a page where you are given the ticket ID.

            Fill in all the required fields. Then, fill in the Captcha at the bottom, and click “Submit”.

            After that, you should be redirected to a page that simply says that your ticket has been received, and you should be shown a ticket ID.

            Please provide me with that ticket ID.

    Hi i am having viber installed on my pc. I would like to deactivate it from this pc, and use it on a new laptop. Unfortunately i have no access to my cell. Is there a way i can use my old activation code for the new laptop, or is it possible to receive a new code by the viber that is installed on my pc?

      Hi,

      Unfortunately the only way to register to Viber Desktop is to recieve a new activation code for each time you install Viber Desktop on a new machine.

      What you could do however, is install Viber on your new laptop, but do not yet deactivate the app on the old laptop. The message will be received on your old laptop’s Viber, and then you’ll be able to use that code to complete the activation on the new laptop.

      Then, you’ll be able to deactivate Viber on the old laptop if you wish, and all will work fine :)

      Also, please try removing Viber Desktop from your Mac, reboot, then try to install the latest version again.

      You can check for your version number by pressing the “ALT” key when the application is running. Then at the top menu choose Help –> About.

      About updates – Viber Desktop should update automatically for your convenience :)

    My smartphone got wet and won’t turn on. I want to use Viber on my laptop so I installed Viber for Windows. I inserted my sim card on a non-smartphone, but did not receive any Confirmation Code. So I inserted my sim card to another smartphone that already has an existing Viber account. It turns out I cannot access my own Viber just by transferring the sim card. How do I use Viber for Windows under my own number?

      Hi,

      The activation code for Viber Desktop is sent to the Viber account, not to your phone (so your SIM card is irrelevant for this process).

      Viber for mobile is connected with the phone itself (the device), and not the SIM card. This means that in order to receive the activation code for Viber Deskop, you’ll need to register to Viber again on a smartphone (using your number, and not an existing Viber account). Then, register to Viber Desktop, and you’ll be able to receive the activation code for it :)

          Yes, that’s true. Viber Desktop can be used only if there is an activate Viber account on some mobile device.

          Note that a few accounts of Viber Desktops can be installed and used simultaneously on a few different computers though.

There is another figure for the country code which is redundant (the first figure is doubled). When I try to answer to that number, Viber tells me the contact does not have Viber. So I have to write to him to his right number (without redundant figure), and read his answers from the wrong one. Very annoying. On my mobile (WP 8) everything is fine – all the sent and recieved messages are shown from the contact, which really exists. I had Viber on Windows 7 desktop and everything was fine. Some troubles with W8. Thanks in advance.

    - also, I saw in some press release that version 4 for desktop should show the “last online…” but I cannot see that. Is there some configuration to do?

      - Unfortunately there is no way to import past conversations onto your Desktop version.
      - Currently, only the “Seen” feature (that lets you see if your message has been seen by the destination user) has been added. The “Last online” feature will be added in future updates.

      Unfortunately this is not possible yet. Viber Desktop synchronizes with your mobile phone’s conversations from the moment you install Viber Desktop on that computer.

      In the future, we might offer an export/import feature, and if we have news about it we’ll let you know.

    i wanna use Viber on my PC at work. However, my office network has its own proxy to limit connection to internet. i have to set the proxy manually in some softwares like skype and yahoo messenger to make them work. but in Viber i cant do it, so that i cant make Viber on PC work. it shows i have no internet connection even while im writing this comment now.

      At the moment, Viber does not officially support proxy connections unfortunately.

      You might want to contact your network administrator and make sure the following ports are enabled (“forwarded”) on your routers or firewalls:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      We might add the proxy option in the future. We’ll keep our users posted with news.

    I use my Windows 8 PC as non-admin because that’s a smart thing to do. When i installed Viber (I ran it as admin) it only installed on the admin account. There is no shortcut on my non-admin acc. Tried it several times, same result. Removed from my PC and my Android phone. Hate it when ppl make simple things complicated. Anyway … nice try :)

      It could be that the network you are connected to is blocking Viber’s traffic.

      1.
      First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connecting
      to a few different WiFi networks (in order to pinpoint the source of the
      problem). What are the results?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled (“forwarded”) on your routers or firewalls:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, you may contact your router manufacturer or your Internet Service Provider)

      * If it still fails, please specify what country you’re located in, and which cellular network you’re subscribed to.

    Just installed Viber on my laptop. I installed Viber (desktop mode) on my laptop because sometimes i ran out of credits for mobile internet thus i can’t continue my conversation with friends on the mobile Viber. Every time I log in to desktop Viber, it always asks for an activation code. But I don’t receive any code on my phone’s inbox. One time, i was able to connect through wi-fi and found out activation code was sent on the Viber mobile account.
    So basically, if your mobile net is not working, you can’t get the code and there’s no way for you to use it through the desktop version? I think that sucks. :( Is there another way i can get the code even without any mobile net connection? Thanks

      The activation code is sent from Viber Desktop to Viber mobile only once, when you register to Viber Desktop.

      So you need your Viber mobile to be available when you first register to Viber Desktop. After that, each time you open Viber Desktop (on the same computer), it will not ask you for a code again.

      It’s not possible to log out per se.
      What you could so, is deactivate Viber on your mobile, and then your Viber Desktop will automatically be deactivated as well. Then, you can reactivate Viber on your mobile.

      However, this will result in deletion of your message history.

    Hello! I installed viber on my desk top yesterday. I love it! Its easier to use while at home. However, my question is. If it’s possible to turn it off on my phone while in use on my computer. Everytime I receive a message on my computer my phone is still dinging and I find it pointless for it to till ding my phone everytime. :D I tried to disable it on my phone while on my laptop, but as soon as I got a message it still came through my phone.

    Hi, I have installed the desktop version of viber on my windows 7 laptop. I am currently on a business trip to work with a client. Viber works fine when I am in my hotel roome (via hotel wifi). But in my client’s office, I cannot connect to internet unless using a proxy server for LAN (you know, ie>tools>internet options>connections>lan settings> proxy settings. When I provide a proxy server, I am able to connect to internet and everything works fine except Viber. I cannot find any configuration option in Viber to add a manual http proxy. Can you help me?

    My friend activated his Viber on a new number, I can see his chats coming to my Viber normally, but can’t send him anything (like if he don’t have Viber), no text field to send him message on PC version. I can contact him normally on iOS version, but for Windows it is not!!!

    I tried and used successfully your first released version for PC. Then, i uninstalled it for my some reasons. Now, I want to use again for my PC , so i download the latest version from your website “www.viber.com” and place that ViberSetup.exe file on my local place (e.g D:ViberSetup.exe). But, when I installed, i occurred this error “windows is searching for Viber.exe. To locate the file yourself, click Browse”. So, i browser the place under D and input that .exe file. but, it loops in installation again and again. i did many changes the places and many version you released. but, same error occurred. My window is Window 7 32 bits and other software can install well. just showing that error for viber setting up. What should I do, please kindly suggest and fix this error.       Please try two things:

      1. Ensure that you are an admin of the computer on which you wish to download Viber.

      2.Delete the file that you previously downloaded and download a new version of Viber for Desktop ( http://bit.ly/1dKKlg3 ). This time, do not transfer the file to another drive on your computer. It is possible that this is disrupting the installation process.

      Sticker Market > Settings > Get Purchased Stickers

      To sync your stickers on Viber for Desktop, you can select the Refresh icon at the top right of the Sticker menu.

      Viber for Desktop does not have a log in/out option. Each computer can be associated with one Viber account. However, you can use your Viber ID (phone number) on multiple computers.

      If you are using a shared computer and wish to switch between users, you will need to deactivate user A’s account and re-activate using user B. Please note that this is an activation process, not logging in and out.

    There is no reason for blocking viber, facebook or any other softwares in Iran. However, they are blocked and we can not do anything about it. It would have been great if there were some HTTP,SOCKS or any proxy setting in Viber Desktop to compensate this. Besides, I can not use viber on my works internet because they use a proxy. everything else works fine though.
