The last big Viber update was Viber 2.0, which introduced text messaging. Now that almost 7 months have passed, the new Viber 2.1 offers enhanced messaging with photos, location sharing and a new sound engine. Also, Viber has released two applications at once – one for iPhone and one for Android.
Free text messaging (SMS) was a real hit and Viber users are sending literally billions of messages with the app. Now with Viber 2.1, you can send photo messages to your friends. You can take a new photo or use one from your existing library and send them to contacts. Using this is simple and intuitive, as it should be on smartphones. You can send picture messages on Viber just like picture messaging on Skype, and just how most people use MMS services, although those can be expensive!
Please note that these messages are not MMS and you can not compose text with a picture or make a slideshow, although those are rarely used MMS features.
New Sound Engine
Incredible sound quality has always been one of Viber’s main features, it usually caused problems when talking over a 3G mobile network with a bad signal or over EDGE connections. Now, with the new engine calls on all network connections sound better, and even when your connection isn’t perfect, your call should go through and be clear for you and your contacts.
Here are a few more features that can be found in this new version. For more details you can check the official Viber article for this release.
