Viber 2.1.3 for Android – ICS support

Today Viber announced that the new version 2.1.3 for Android is available at Android Market. Main feature is that Viber from now on can work on Android 4 devices.

Here is the original announment:

Viber users have been asking for an ICS compatible version from the moment it was released by Google. The latest version of the mobile OS is powering the most recent generation of Android smartphones including the incredibly popular Samsung Galaxy Nexus. And now – these phones can also run Viber.

In addition, this version includes significant enhancements to the Viber voice engine, featuring better quality, improved support for low end devices and better handling of poor network conditions.

Viber is committed to the Android platform and has seen rapid growth on the OS over the last seven months since it first released the Android version of its app. Additionally, Viber offers Android users several unique features that aren’t available on the iOS version of the app.

Viber recently announced that over 50 million people have registered for the service. Each month, Viber users make over a billion minutes worth of calls and send close to a billion messages. Android users are playing an increasing role in this growth.

    Hi Viber Team, I sucessfully downloaded and installed Viber on my HTC Sensation from the Market. Two messages keep on coming. “Viber service is currently unavailable or being blocked. Please try again later. Place regular call instead?” AND “This contact does not yet have viber. Press Continue to place a regular call through your carrier. To place a free viber call, this contact must also have Viber installed.” But my contact has viber already and he’s been using viber for several months already. My viber contact said that he can send messages and call me thru viber but it will just keep on ringing. On my part also, I did not receive his messages and calls. I have tried deactivating and reactivating my account. I was able to receive SMS also for the new viber code. I have tried uninstalling viber and then re-installing it. But still, the same messages are coming. I cannot use it with wifi connection or even in my service provider’s packet data. Please help me to get the app running. I am from Romania and my carrier is Vodafone. Thanks in advance.

      Hi Freddy,

      Unfortunately, Vodafone Romania have recently decided to block Viber on their 3G network, and there is not much we can do :(
      You may want to contact them and demand answers.

      Meanwhile, you should be able to use Viber just fine on WiFi networks. Have you tested Viber on WiFi?

        Thank you for your reply. As I already specified in my first comment, I tried using viber on WiFi but the result is the same. Can this happen because my Internet service provider is Vodafone ?

          Hi again,
          I apologize for my delayed response.

          Viber on WiFi and 3G should not be related at all, no matter what cellular carrier you’re subscribed to.

          Your WiFi network might be blocking Viber’s ports regardless, i.e separately from the 3G block of Vodafone.

          In order to verify this:

          1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
          2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your routers or firewalls:
          TCP: 5242 + 4244
          UDP: 5243 + 9785

          (if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)

    I successfully installed the new update but now I keep getting the same message for all my contacts. “This contact does not yet have viber”. I am in the US on T-Mobile. HTC Sensation. Same message of wifi and 4G.

    It was working fine right before the update.

      Also:
      1. Please rebooting your phone, and switching between a few different WiFi networks.
      2. Please tell your contacts to install the new 2.2 version.
