Viber 2.0 for iPhone is Released

Viber 2.0 with text messaging support is finally here. The real drama: It was originally planned for February, at last released two days ago and just few hours latter removed from App Store due to critical bug.
OK, now it is here and there are few features you will rely enjoy on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Free text messaging (SMS)
Major feature in this version is ability to send free textual messages to other Viber users. Again it is done in manner like it is done in original iPhone Messages application. Clean and easy to use, with few specifics. Every message has a icon which describes its status: Sending, Sent, Delivered, Pending Connectivity.
Do not forget that this are not real SMS messages and that you can write them only to Viber users.

Instant account deactivation
There was many complaints regarding holding private data (address book, call logs) on Viber servers and unclear deactivate account procedure. Now, under a More tab, you can click on Deactivate Account option. It will deactivate application on your iPhone and remove all associated data from Viber servers.

Improved call mechanism
During the outgoing call, till now we could see only Calling and Answering statuses. Now, we there is new status “Ringing” which indicates that the connection is established. Note that this new status is available only if the other party has it’s Viber started (running in background is OK too). Otherwise, communication relays on iPhone push notifications and in that case there is no technical possibility to know is the Viber actually ringing.

Other goodies
Now there is “Continue and don’t show again” option when switching to regular carrier services – placing a call or sending a message to an non Viber users.
Favorites are moved up to Contacts tab.

Optimal usage reminder
As we already wrote on Official announcement – optimal usage of Viber for iPhone, Viber again reminds that it is best to keep application in background.

      If you have iPhone 4 or iPhone 3gs (both supports multitasking) you will see Viber icon in your task bar (double press on your home button).
      For old iPhones, there is no such thing as background running. But don't worry, Viber will work just well on them too.
      So, in any case, the Viber is ready to receive calls and text messages, no matter is it on, in background or turned off.

        Hi the dame problem with my phone, for a few weeks now my phone will not push through viber calls or tex, tried reinstalling it few times still the same, received calls or text will only show when app is open, sent call or texts are fine. I've got a 3G only and there is no help for this phone only 3GS or 4. My partner is also 3G is working fine still both also updated to latest viber, push is also activated still no good, any ideas?

    No, you can talk to free (text too) only to another Viber users.

    hey.
    i'm trying to reach my girlfriend in Italy (WIND) on viber and up untill yesterday we used to talk for hours and it all went without any problem in a crispy clear tone. as for today, everytime we succeed on establishing a connection, she isn't able to hear me and vise versa. in case we DO hear each other – the call sound is broken (fragmented).
    FYI – i should add that as for calling others – ALL WORKS WELL.

    both models are iPhone4 on the latest firmware and of course the latest viber.

    i'm frustrated as hell……
    requesting your help badly… :/

      Since yesterday, we've been having server issues that affect all users, and this might be the cause to your problem.
      We are working hard to fix this issue, and hope that it will be resolved even today.

    i have an iphone 3g, how do i know that viber is on in the background, and when i go through my phonebook

    it does not show any viber users though my brother has it, it only shows viber icon on his contact when i open

      Hi Tom,
      I'm not sure I understood the problem you are describing.

      In order to call someone via Viber, natually you need to open the application itself (you can't use iPhone's main app in order to make a Viber call).

      As long as the "Viber" logo appears next to your brother's contact INSIDE Viber, that's fine.

      Is there any other problem that I didn't understand?

    Both my brother and I have just bought an iPhone 4 each. He is in Vietnam and I am working in Singapore. We both have the latest Viber. He has problem placing calls and sending messages to me. All his calls and messages through the Viber Application opened were routed through his telco Mobifone which means PAYABLE!!!!

    I have placed calls and messaged him. They were sent but NOT received. My telco is Starhub. I have read many server issues on the forum these few days. Does Viber has problems?

      Hi,
      The reason Viber switched your calls to be regular calls (through your telco) was that there was a possible internet connection or problems with our servers.
      At any rate – such switch HAS to have your permission before it takes place. Purple screen means a Viber call, grey screen means it switched over to the regular iPhone call screen (regular cellular call).

      Viber had some server problems several days ago, but it should be working perfectly fine now. Please remove and reinstall Viber on both sides and try to call each other again.

    i have viber and so does my family , I am working in saudi and they are home in australia. but they can hear me and i cannot hear them or it keeps coming up must be connected to the internet.

      It sounds as if the internet network you are connected to is blocking Viber.
      Are you trying to use Viber on 3G or WiFi?

    Hi, I am in Japan's hotel. When I use my iphone 3GS and connect thru wifi, i have problem in using Viber. It works well when I use that in Hong Kong.

    I plug a router in hotel room to share the internet.

      Hotel wifis usualy have restrictive firewalls and they are blocking all ports except one used for web browsing. The ports required by Viber are
      TCP: 5242 and 4244
      UDP: 5243

    I'm sure there are some apps (probably for jailbreak iPhones) that can check it, but I can't recommend anything specific (Tole?)
    Anyway, you might want to simply ask them.

    In addition, find another WiFi network, connect to it and test Viber. This will verify that this is indeed the source of the problem (in your hotel).

      No, I don't know about any app to test the ports. From my experience, I test the new wi-fi networks by simply trying to make a Viber call. If it does not pass through it has to be a firewall issue.
      Btw, the indicator (or popup) which says: "ports are closed", would be a nice feature on Viber

    i have problem with viber on iphone 3g. If I exit viber i can't receive any call. Push nottifications are enabled but they are not working. Is it iphone 3g compatibility problem or something else?

      3G are a little problematic. Usually this feature works better on 3GS or 4G.
      By the way – is your iPhone jailbroken?

        Yes, jailbroken with custom ipsw to preserve ultrasnow unlockable BB. Also installed Push fix from cydia to fix youtube and push problems.

          Then the cause of the problem might be the fact that your iPhone is unlocked or jailbroken, and that interferes with Push Notifications in your iPhone. We've heard that some of our users fixed this problem using something called "Push Doctor", but this is *NOT* an official solution from Viber Media.

    I am in singapore and my sister is is philipinnes i used iphone4 and she used iphone3 we both have viber and both latest version i've been calling and texting her with no problem but just recently we started not able to get each other text and calls even we both have wifi at home and working good. It upset me so much and didnt know whats the problem. Any help and suggestion?

    Hi there,
    I have used Viber successfully until yesterday when all of a sudden I stopped receiving messages. I can only view the new texts when i log into the application? Calls are not received either and agin only see that I have missed calls when I log in. I have a 3G phone, which is not jailbroken or unlocked. Any suggestions?

      1. Please remove Viber, reboot your iPhone and reinstall Viber.
      2. What country are you located in? Which cellular network?

        Hello to ViberTeam. I have the same problem. On my 3G when Viber is opened everything works. While the app is closed nothing goes through. My iPhone is not jailbroken. The same things happens on 3G and on Wifi. I am on Vodafone in Czech Republic. My friend with iPhone 4 with the same network (Vodafone) has no problems.
        And the worse thing is that many days everything was ok. I did not make any changes. I have still allowed notifications. My notifications in other apps works still the same. Only Viber stopped recieving any while it is closed.
        Tried to uninstall, reboot and install. Tried to deactivate and reactivate few times and nothing helped. What should I try now? Thanks.

        Hello, i´m a brazilian viber user, and I have used Viber successfully until last week when all of a sudden I stopped to receiving messages alerts… I have a 3g phone thats not jailbroken, and I tried to do everything you told…. remove from device, reboot, reinstal, and i´m using wifi and 3g….

    I've been experiencing problems with Viber for a while now even though it worked fine before. I have it installed on an iphone 4 here in Canada- I've tried removing and reinstalling, nothing has changed. My messages to other iphone 4 users (local and international) do not go through neither do my calls….what's happening and is there a solution?

      The UAE decided to block Viber, this is why you are getting the error. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it :(
      Try contacting Etisalat (or the authorities) and ask for the reason for this block.

    Hi I ve just downloaded the latest viber 2.1
    When i try to call a user in Bahrain it says the user needs to update his viber to latest version ,,, but when I sent a text was fine and it SENT ( before it didnt recognize his number) so I edited his number then it sent…. Also he says when he calls me it rings and nothing happens… Is there anyway I can degrade back to 2.0 as I didnt have these problems before …. OR
    can u send me direct link so that he can upgrade via his iphone

      Your friend can simply install the latest version from AppStore or Market (depending on what device he has), and then everything should be fine.
      Please try it and see if it works now.

    I just downloaded the new viber. When I entered the code sent in the sms, it said (invalid code). When use no code?, I recieved a call with another code. It did not work. I deleted the app and redownloaded it. Now it doesn’t send sms and when go to no code?, it says (an error has encounter during viber activation process). any help?

    Ya got some big probs with this latest version Viber. Just crashes when it wants, Contacts appear and dissapear at will, wont accept code when reinstalling. Just to name a few.

        iPhone 4. OS 5. Latest Viber caused all the problems. Old version works fine on my friends iPhones phones, I upgraded Viber and have had lots of issues.

They could call me and in my contact list I saw that the viber was working and I could call them back but after a while the display said I have to invite again.
