Some Viber users have noticed a higher amount of spam being sent to their accounts. These messages are not sent by Viber and they are not sanctioned by the company. Viber Media does not and will never send advertisements to users.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean some scam artists aren’t still trying to use the platform to send spam to people. Some fly-by-night websites have even started offering to send spam messages to users for a fee, and Viber is working hard to shut these down.
In the meanwhile, users may find that they are getting spam. If you are getting messages you do not want, here’s what you should do:
1. If someone sends you a spam message, open it up and choose options (on iOS, this is the wheel in the top-right corner).
2. Select “Block this Contact”, like you normally would with a user you want to block.
3. You can also report the spammer to Viber by going to this page. Make sure to choose “technical issue” and tell Viber you’re getting spam from the user. Also tell Viber the spammer’s phone number, and they will take care of it from there.
