How do I install Viber?

If you are reading this post with your iPhone or Android, just click on this link www.viber.com/dl and install the application. For Blackberry use the following link: viber.com/blackberry and for Windows Phone use viber.com/windowsphone url.
Otherwise, open the App Store on your iPhone, Market on your Android device, BlackBerry App World or Windows Phone Marketplace and search for Viber.

If you are an Android user and you can’t install Viber from the Android Market, it means that your phone (or tablet) is not officially supported. In that case, you can install Viber directly from here: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php/Knowledgebase/Article/View/100/16/cant-download-from-android-market

When you install it, it will prompt you to access your address book, and, after that, to enter your mobile phone number. When you enter the number, you’ll receive an SMS with an activation code. Enter it in Viber and that’s it!

Please note that, on Android based phones, in some cases, you will not have to enter the activation code manually. It will be automatically inserted into Viber.

If your device has no SIM card whatsoever (iPad, iPod Touch, Wi-Fi Only Samsung Galaxy Tab), you can enter the number from your mobile device and get the activation code from it.

Usually, new users are invited with an invitation SMS, sent by their friends.

        Hello,

        Viber with my Sony ericsson xperia arc s has been working very well. And a week before i updated it which made it to get stuck. So I uninstalled it to reinstall again and see if it is gonna work. but when i did that they again asked for the activation code. when i try to get so, I am not getting the SMS verification code. Please help me in this!

          Please try removing Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options). If this doesn’t help, contact our support team at http://support.viber.com and give them the details of the problem.

      You install Viber, type in your phone number, press "Continue" and then what happens? Do you move on to the next screen, or it is stuck after you click "Continue"?

    I'm trying to install but when I add my mobile number it says error, my country is united Arab emirates. I had viber before on my old iPhone with the same number and it worked..please help as so frustrated..

    The UAE decided to block Viber, this is why you are getting the error. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it :(

    Try using a VPN connection. For more details, google it and find more people in the UAE who will guide you how to do it.

      If it still doesn't work, then the cause of the problem might be the fact that your iPhone is unlocked or jailbroken, and that interferes with Push Notifications in your iPhone. We've heard that some of our users fixed this problem using something called "Push Doctor", but this is *NOT* an official solution from Viber Media.

    hi, I used the beta version and it works perfectly but when i installed the new version, i couldn't see my friends who have viber account, it looks like no one of my contact have a viber account even though they have and talked to them in beta version ..!

      In order to refresh your contact list, please try the following:

      Enter Viber and find a person you know has Viber in the "All" contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he's recognized as a Viber user now.

      If it doesn't work, please try manually dialing the number in its FULL format (including the "+" sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

      * Please let me know if it worked.

        hi, i tried to change the number for one of my contact who has viber, but it didn't work, but when i dial it manually it says, "Viber service is currently unavailable or being blocked. please try again later"

        by the way in my notification area i have in viber part either "Service disconnected" or "connecting to service"

        i don't know if this may help, but when I uninstall my beta version, i found by an explorer program a file has a viber in it's name , I don't remember the exact name ,but I delete that folder, because I thought It's something remaining from an old version I don't need it, I will install the new one.

        I don't know if this correlate to my problem.

            i installed it on different mobile phone but with same cell provider and still the same problem ..

            but 10 days ago i used it .. !! on beta version ..!!

            hi, i was waiting for reply, I informed that this issue happened in Saudi Arabia and UAE too , but i'm not sure ..

            Anyways, the problem was solved by itself, but now when somebody calls and I answer my phone keeps giving me the message "Answering" and the time counter never starts. so eventually I'm not being able to the talk to my contact.
            The caller on the other hand gets the sign that he is still calling but no one is picking up.

            Yes, it indeed seems like Syria decided to block Viber like Saudi Arabia and the UAE :(

            Try contacting Etisalat (or the authorities) and ask for the reason for this block.

    i have used viber about 2-3 months on my iphone 3G and by some chance i have to restore my ios but now after restoring my ios i can install the viber but the problem is when i select my country (which is nepal) and add my phone number for confirmation sms and press continue nothing does happen.

    i just pressed that button for 10 times or so but nothing happen. Again i delete that app and download the fresh one but facing the same problem.

    please help!!!

    I have just installed Viber on my LG phone. I did allow access to my contacts, but not all of them are showing up in the contact list. For example all my contacts with names starting with G are missing??
    I did get access code by sms but when I pressed OK the Viber application closed and I don't know where to enter the code??

      Please try to be more specific – you installed Viber and then what happened?

    I have installed Viber on my Galaxy for 2 day and Viber says service disconnected for 3 times in two days,
    Evertime i connect there I became a sms with the same code, does anybody knows what the problem is? Do I must pay for every sms with the code?

      When does Viber disconnect? What is the problem with the SMS? Please try to explain the problem clearly.

    Viber Services disconnected! on Desire HD any solutions ? internet is working fine but what i noticed that when the Viber launch without internet on Device its not work and keep give me the Services disconnected! message, and there is no function to refresh Viber service or something like that… And if your device connected to the internet you have to close (force close) and reopen Viber to be able to connect to internet. i think that this an issue on viber for android.

    What do u think guys ?

      What you're basically saying is that Viber does not connect automatically when internet returns, but instead you have to manually force-close it and reopen?

      1. Do you have a custom ROM on your Android or stock ROM?
      2. Does this problem also happen to the rest of your friends with Viber?

        Okay, first issue appeared to me is: when install Viber for first time, its ask me to access contacts list, i accept then i receive (Match contacts) on my android device and i link all my contacts with their Viber accounts, then i still get the no contacts on Viber tab, i do many refresh contacts and wait around 20 minutes and still no viber contacts, now i restarted my device and i can see all my viber contacts… but after first installation i have to restart device to see Viber contacts…

      At this stage, we don't support custom ROMs with Viber (we might add support for *SOME* ROMs in the future). Running Viber on a customized ROM results in various side effects, some of which are severe, but unfortunately we can't afford to support ALL those ROMs at this stage. You might want to contact the ROM developers and ask if any adaptations could be made there in order to support Viber.

      1. Please try using Viber on both 3G and WiFi. Do you get this error message in both cases?
      2. Which cellular network are you connected to?
      3. Does this also happen to other friends of yours on the same network?

    I installed Viber on my new Galaxy v2 cell phone, as part of the installation he asked my permission to access my contact list in order to locate other viber users
    I said no, I do not want it; I would like it to be like Skype that gives that option and respect it.
    Viber was quite surprised by my unexpected answer and get into loop of “do you agree…” “no”…………………….
    I had to uninstall it because there was no other way how to stop this stupid discussion

      I'm an official representative of Viber Media.

      Viber has to get permission from you to access your contact list. It uses it for strictly functional purposes – it checks which ones of your friends has Viber installed, and this is how you get notified (automatically) if any of them installed Viber previously, or will install in the future. The purpose of the app is to be intuitive, easy to use, and essentially replace the native phone and text app, only for free.

      You are probably going to say that this is a privacy issue. So let me assure you – we don't share your information except for with the companies who send you the confirmation SMS, and we don't sell it, of course. Your information is well-locked in our servers, with extremely limited access.         I would like to def my users manually (like Skype), I'll never share it with you or other software product
        also I wrote to you that when i answer "no" there was not an option to go out or uninstall but it got in loop of the same question

          Yes, you are not forced to install Viber, and furthermore – we put a direct link to our Privacy Policy upon the very first screen of the app. So no confusion can be claimed to have been made.
          About choosing your contacts manually – well, this beats the whole point of our app. We intentionally made it easy-to-use and intuitive, so even users with tech difficulties could enjoy Viber (and the feedbacks we are getting are positive, not negative). Again, we have explicit guarantees – bound by law – to not abuse the information we get needed to enable this service.

          And you should have no problems "releasing" yourself from this loop. You can simply go to Running Services and kill Viber, just like you would do with any other app. Same for iPhone users, with Multitasking.

    hi, i have a motorola defy with 2.2.1 (froyo) original rom, and i have some problems, i install the viber aplication he ask me a permissions to match my contact list and i say ok, insert the number to activate my account everything is alright, but when i see my viber list dont have anyone with viber icon, and in my taskbar the viber status say: service disconected!, i try all the tricks i read in this faq but i cant see my viber list or conect to the service, but my friends see my number with a viber icon but they cant call me or sms to my phone. have some update to launch in the next weeks? have some incompatibility with motorola defy?

      We haven't encountered any special bugs with Motorola Defy.
      It might be that the internet connection you are using is blocked, either by ISP or by firewall.

      What country are you located in? Which cellular network?
      Did you try checking this issue on WiFi and 3G?

    help,, i cant see any contact with viber, and i know i have some that have it,, i cant send or ring because i have no contacts in my viber list,, when i add them it says this person dose not havr viber installedd etc etc,,,, the only way i can talk with the person is if they send me a txt first, then i can reply back and ring,,, but i cant do it on my side,, help!!!       Viber is a free app, so no credit card is needed. You can simply make a free AppleID account (through AppStore or iTunes), and then download Viber.

      Viber for Blackberry is in the works, but we don’t know when it will be ready. The reason for the delay is that Blackberry is much more technologically complex than iPhone or Android (it doesn’t support VoIP basically).

      We started putting more focus on it in the past few weeks, and it’s getting closer and closer now, but no release dates yet.

    I am from UAE and I have two phones. One Android and other iPhone 4 (factory unlocked) officially bought from the operator itself. I am using 2 different SIMs from the same operator. Viber works perfectly on the Android but gives error on iPhone 4. Once i enter my mobile number, I can receive the Code but immediately it gives an “Error” message. Any help please. As Viber is working on my Android phone, it means it is not blocked in UAE.

      To be honest, we are surprised that you managed to get Viber working on your Android, because as far as we know – the UAE simply blocked Viber for *all* users.

      Unfortunately there is not much we can offer you – users need to contact Etisalat and demand answers. You can try using a VPN connection.     When using viber on an iphone 3g am I able to use all the features, all the time? As you know iphone 3g doesn’t support multitasking so apps switch off once you start using the phone for something else, making apps like skype almost completely useless. Does viber overcome this issue?

      Unlike Skype, Viber utilizes Push Notifications, meaning if you shut Viber off (and don’t have Multi-Tasking), Viber should pop-up when you receive a call/text.

      This service relies on Apple’s Push server, so it might not work 100% smoothly, but it’s the best you can get with an iPhone 3G.

    Sorry, let me refine my question. I see that with push notification viber doesn’t even need to be on so that presumably answers my previous question about multitasking. However, my phone is jailbroken and I notice that you say this interferes with the push functionality. In what way? My phone doesn’t seem to make any noise when receiving calls or text. Is that normal?

      Push Notifications on some Jailbroken iPhones don’t work as they should. Having an iPhone 3G with no multitasking, as I explained below, you need to rely on Push Notifications in order to accept Viber calls even when Viber is not running in the foreground.

    I have tried ALL the workarounds for the “contacts issue”. I can’t see the Viber Contacts.
    I have a HTC Legend with Android 2.3.
    Any idea??? I really want to try this app.

      Did you make absolutely sure those friends really have Viber installed?

        Yes. None of my contacts is recognized as Viber user.
        I have two mobiles phones (both lines are Vodafone Spain), HTC Legend and HTC Wildfire, and in both cases in can’t see each other contacts.

        I have tried almost everything (uninstalling, adding contacts as +34-xxx-xxx-xxx, as 0034-xxx-xxx-xxx, calling from viber dialpad…) and nothing.

        I have also tried “calling” and “adding” a friend that have iPhone with Movistar Spain, and nothing….

        I have internet connection…

        Any idea?

            I tried it on my Wifi, and the same result… nothing at all!
            I tried to call with the dialpad to a friend (Iphone with working Viber), and a popup window say that something is blocking my viber. It makes sense if my operator (vodafone) is blocking VoIP, but.. connected via Wifi???
            I received one of the test messages my friend sent me, but only one…
            I am really dissapointed at this moment, and I don’t know what is blocking viber (I don’t have any task killer or antivirus in my phone…)

            If anyone know any other test to do, please tell me!

            I have the same problem. HTC Legend on vodaphone.es. Viber does not recognise any of my viber contacts and also the ‘service does not seem to connect’ as I get ‘service disconnected’. Any ideas if this is blocked by carrier in spain?

            Vodafone España could certainly be blocking Viber on their 3G (Vodafone is already doing it in other countries), but there shouldn’t be any reason why it wouldn’t work on WiFi. I really don’t know what to suggest.

            @L1tcb and @franL – please do the following: remove Viber, install it on WiFi this time, and once Viber opens, wait 10 minutes. See if the contacts are recognized, and if not, perform this full workaround:

            Enter Viber and find a person you know has Viber in the “All” contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he’s recognized as a Viber user now.

            If it doesn’t work, please go to Viber’s DialPad and try to manually dial the number in its FULL format (including the “+” sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

            Viber works fine on my Wifi connection so I am concluding that its blocked by vodafone.es (spain). This is very strange as they do not block skype which has much the same functionality.
            Viber, what have u done to upset vodafone.es????

            This is bad news. We’ll try to contact Vodafone and see what we can do.
            Can you tell me if they block Viber on all of their 3G data plans? Maybe Viber is only blocked on the cheaper plans for users who didn’t purchase a big data package for VoIP?

            If you don’t know the answer to this, may we ask that you contact them and let us know? it will help us a alot!

    I am from Indoneisa. I tried installing viber serveral times in galaxy ace (GT-S5830). Never got sms and click here link takes to activate.viber. But in that display “Get Code” does not appear. In the same network provider (indosat) iphone 4 installed without issue after receiving sms. Please help

    Hello, I just downloaded Viber for my iPhone 4 I entered my number without the country code in Saudi Arabia (+966) as it said but when I tap Continue it says Error. My iPhone 4 has not been jailbroken by the way. Please reply soon.

    Hi,
    I use htc desire (Android 2.3 Gingerbread) and I have one major problem with viber. The problem is that viber is not connecting to the service. In notification area stands connecting to service… but in most cases never connects. I’m using WiFi, which I have to switch off for many times, for many minutes until viber connects, while any other program that uses internet connection, works fine.
    Viber is great, but this problem really bothers me. Please help

        I’m from Croatia. over the cell network it mostly works, but over WiFi mostly it doesn’t. I’ve even flashed my router, and still it mostly doesn’t work. But as I said any other program that needs internet connection works fine. It opens internet pages, and everything, but for Viber sometimes I have to connect and disconnect wifi on cell tens of times before I get it to connect

            TCP: 5242 + 4244
            UDP: 5243 + 9785

    i got a problem with viber. I got samsung galaxy s running 2.3.4 gingerbread.

    I got the latest viber installed. Sometimes just randomly i would get this error…

    “Viber service is currently unavailable or being bloke. Pleas try again later. Place a regular call instead?”

    I tried calling other contacts and i get the same issue. And after a while the problem just disappears. And randomly comes back again. I dont know what is causing it. I am using wifi. I get the same problem in 3g as well.

    My internet connection is stable so i dont know what is causing the problem.

    I’ve even tried restarting the application and rebooting phone, i get same problem. I even uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, I still get same problem.

    How do i fix this?

        Hmm… we haven’t heard of any special problems from our users in Optus. Strange.

        The fact that you are experiencing this issue both on WiFi and 3G makes it sound like a problem with your Android.

        We will soon be releasing our new version – Viber 2.1 (probably a few weeks).
        Once this happens, please try to uninstall your current version, and see if the problem persists in our new version. If it does, please contact our support forums at http://support.viber.com and elaborate on the problem.

      Unfortunately, Syrian service providers decided to block Viber both on 3G and WiFi networks, and there is not much we can do :(

      Try contacting your provider and demand answers.

      For more details about VPN, you may google it and find more people in your network who will guide you how to do it.

      Note that Viber doesn’t support Jailbroken units and that can cause the issue as well.

      The UAE decided to block Viber, this is why you are getting the error. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it :(
      Try contacting Etisalat (or the authorities) and ask for the reason for this block.

      1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod.
      2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone’s number, then confirm.
      3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
      4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod. Viber will then be activated, and you’re good to go.

      * this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod.

        @ViberFan – Viber’s current support for Bluetooth devices is not full. We know for a fact that most devices are compatible with Viber, but also that a few other models are not. We are working hard to make more and more devices work with Viber, and we hope it will be fixed soon.

      If both of you have 2.1 and above installed, it should be just fine…
      Try deactivating on both sides (through the “More” tab) then reinstalling again. The problem should then be solved.

    Hey, i installed VIBER, and am using it on HTC Wildfire S. The problem is that it keeps on downloading again and again for some reason. It’s working perfectly fine, but it keeps appearing as a download on my notifications screen. Also, it has a startup file with a .sdv extension (i think i got it right, i dont exactly remember the extension). How do i get rid of it downloading on and off? When i downloaded it for the first time, it downloaded completely, but the notification vanished, without any application icon. I re-downloaded it and it was fine. Since then, it has been appearing on my notifications screen. Please help.

      This doesn’t sound so much like a Viber problem as it does a Market and/or Android problem.

      Did you try killing the app then uninstall it, and then reinstall again?
      Doesn’t rebooting your phone help?

      In general, Viber does not officially support iPhone 2G (but only 3Gs and above). We are now working on a solution for iOS3 users and we hope it is ready within the next several days. Once it’s available, you will once again be able to download Viber from AppStore, but again – we can’t promise it will work smoothly on your 2G :(

        Hi thank you for the reply, I forgot to mention that my phone is jailbroken also. Thank fully with the aid of pushfix and your efforts I have now downloaded viber and it is working well on wi-fi. The only problem I have found is that I do not receive notifications unless I am physically in the viber program. As soon as I go back to my home screen the phone does not ring. It is a small price to pay and maybe its as a result of my phone being 2g and jailbroken.

          Multi-tasking (thus – utilizing Push Notifications) is not meant to work at all on 2G iPhones, let alone when they’re jailbroken. You actually got lucky that Viber works for you, but we are happy that it does :)

      Nope, it’s not necessary, but without a Google account you don’t have the C2DM service that lets you receive calls/text when Viber is not running in the background (in other words, having Google account associated with your iphone majorly improves your Viber experience).

      However, as I said, it shouldn’t be a necessity.

      Viber does support most Bluetooth/headset devices in general. However, some are not supported, due to the restrictions within iPhone itself (sometimes certain iPhone features or external devices cannot work with 3rd-party applications). We have fixed Viber in our lastest version so MOST of the BT/headset devices do work, but unfortunately some others are just not fully compatible with 3rd-party applications.

      We can’t give you accurate information regarding this. All we know right now is that in Spain Viber is blocked in YoiGo and Vodafone for users with simple data plans.

      Did you try switching networks? Did you try using it on different WiFi networks in order to identify the source of the problem?

      But please note that Viber is a totally free app. You can simply create a free Apple ID (Without entering your credit card info) and still download the application.

      The workaround we usually suggest to users is either having a friend/family member help you receive the code back home using your home/friend’s number in your country, or asking a friend in current country or a cheap pre-paid SIM card to receive the code, and temporarily be registered with a local number.

    Unfortunately, Viber goes no further than the code verification screen as it proceeds to go blank for a few seconds then reverts back to the phone’s home page. This happens every time I try to load it subsequently. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

        If it still works 10% of the time in your home, and you’re saying that it works on other WiFi networks, the it sounds like it’s a router problem, and not Viber problem (otherwise – it wouldn’t work 100% of the time).

        Unfortunately there is not much we can do to help in this situation. You’ll need to contact your router manufacturer and ask for their support.

    HI, I am currently using Samsung Galaxy Note in Singapore. The problem is when I am calling using Viber, the bluetooth headset can only connect for approx 3-5 mins before discconnecting and had to tap the speaker icon twice for it to re-establish itself again and will go on for another 3-5mins again.

    Had restarted the phone, reinstall and even paired with Plantronics Voyager Pro , Jabra and Jawbone Icon.

    I’ve been using Viber to call from Canada to England for the past five weeks and it’s been working perfectly, then I tried to call this morning and it said “Viber is currently unavailable or being blocked” It has nothing to do with the 3G or Wifi because they both work.

        Please try testing Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Is it the same on all of them?

    i have downloaded viber and started to install it on my iphone3gs, there´s a pop up that tells me it needs to access my phonebook i hit ok, and I hit No code trying to get a viber voice code then another pop up comes up with an error message…i´m lost, i have reinstalled it a few times and nothing…..it doesn´t send me the code to enter to activate i live in Canada …help please mr. viber

    Hi I got an iPod touch today and tried setting up Viber. I entered in my number and first time round recieved a code. I pressed continue but it kept saying that it required internet connection and my wi-fi was connected as I had went on facebook before and after trying to set Viber up!       The WiFi network you are connected to might be blocking Viber (for example – a router running a firewall).

      1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your router:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)

    I think its a bug on your application.

    Because I work with it properly and after 1day use, have the same problem with other users that the saw an error message that shows: “Viber is currently unavailable or being blocked”
    The main fantastic thing is that sometimes I can recieve call from my friends from outside the country or inside(no different) but I cannot recieve any message from them, and at all I can’t make call neither message from my Viber on my Android Galaxy S I9000

    Now I am in Iran and try it via GPRS and Wifi both.
    My brother has Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 and can work easyly but for me, doesn’t work.

    After installing Viber I install different application, maybe they affected this application, plz check and responde me about this.

          The block started a long time ago (more than half a year ago), and it seems to take effect gradually (meaning – not everyone was blocked at once, but rather more and more users are blocked overtime, when they upgrade, reinstall, etc.)

    i just got viber yesterday and the messages wouldnt show up once i get a notification on my lock screen (iphone) so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and when I activated the account my contacts and messages wouldnt come up. its stated “No contacts have viber installed”. i recieve a notification from viber and when I pull the notification thing down, the notification says “to view this msg you need to upgrade viber” so i uninstall again and reinstalled it… NOW! i cant even recieve a sms with my code. I wont get a call from them (by clicking no code on the top right) … iv had it for one day and its already stuffed up. I heard the latest update caused this but then again i dont know. Guess its back to texting btw imessanger doesnt work so i really need viber since all my friends use it :/

    I installed Viber today on iPhone 4S (16GB). Installation went fine and I entered phone number and corresponding activation code (also OK for the notification and accessing the phone book) . After that it was showing ‘Loading’ message with spinning circle to show the loading activity and closing the app within few seconds. Couldn’t successfully bring the app up to make any calls. On the otherside, if someone calls me I can see the incoming ring, notification, but can not take call as the app will crash while coming up.

    Any help?

    Fring is working fine on the same phone as I installed Fring after unsuccessful tries with Viber. But I still like to use the Viber.

    I just bought yesterday a sony ericsson xperia arc s and installed viber .. Then i talked on it a loot ! Suddenly they told me that “viber service is currently unavailable or beign blocked ..” i desinstalled it twice but couldn’t receive the sms for the code activation, and when it works they told my friend that i had “the older version of viber” so i desinstalled again.. & i’m waiting for ur advice to install it again & HOPE it works, it’s really important for me ..       Since Viber is associated with your phone itself (not the SIM card), then even if you go abroad and even switch SIM cards, Viber keeps its identity as the original number with which you registered. About the prefix changes – the same idea: if you Viber-call people in Australia using Viber, you can still dial/save their number the local way.

            listen , my doesnt work either! im in Shanghai on China Unicom! i found out that if i take my friends chinese mobile simcard and stick it in my phone, and take mine and put it in his and use his 3G or edge connection to setup viber and then type in my own phonenumber so i get the code on my friends phone ( but with my simcard in it) then viber works like for 1 call, when i then take my own simcard back out and put it back into mine! but thats now proper! im looking for good alternatives. any suggestions?

        2. Our cellular provider is China Unicom.
        3. Viber has stopped working on both WiFi and 3G.
        4. Website http://www.viber.com is now blocked in China. However, no problem to connect via VPN.
        It appears that Viber has become a victim of the Great Firewall of China. We understand that the Chinese government is paranoid about any means of communication that denies it revenue for its state-owned telephone monopolies.
        Viber has been a great service, which my wife and I have used extensively. We hope the service can be restored.

        2. When our phones are on the hotel’s wifi, Viber still did not work.

However, we tried another viber call initiated from another friend in Dalian China Netcom. the error window popped up says service is currently unavailabe.

      This is an old bug that should have been fixed by now.

      Please make sure both you and the sender of the message have the latest version of Viber installed from AppStore/Market. If the problem remains after that, uninstall Viber, then reinstall.

      For that, you can use your landline home number, a friend or family’s number, an old cellphone number owned by you, etc.

    How come some people on my phonebook whom i did not add, automatically finds and message me? There were some unknown numbers also giving me missed call on the viber application. I have deleted the application for it was unsafe to use. Unfortunately, they can still send me mesaages. There was no safe option or cnfifentiality once your download viber.

      Once you download and install Viber, it checks who in your current phone’s contact list has Viber and inside the app they are marked as “Viber users” automatically.

      If someone has your phone number (in their regular phone contact list) and both of you have Viber, then they can contact you via Viber, just like they were able to contact you through the regular cellular network, naturally (in other words, Viber did not give them any “special” advantage in contacting you)

      So as you see, there is no confidentiality breach here, and Viber is perfectly safe to use ;)

      Have you made sure you 3G network is not blocking Viber’s traffic? Do you have other friends in Brunei who are able to use Viber on that 3G network?

        yeah…the problem is when im connected to my 3g network. how will i know if my 3g network is blocking my viber’s traffic? is there any way to determine that. my friends here have not experienced these problem. thanks!!!!!

          First, it is advisable to contact your cell provider and check it with them.

          Also, as we mentioned, it might be a good idea to test Viber on that same 3G network with friends’ phones. Are they experiencing the same problem on 3G?

      If you’re running an Android device, then the code is automatically inserted and Viber is already activated. It’s ready for use! :)

      Viber should automatically synchronize its contact list with your native contact list (of the phone itself).

      If this doesn’t happen, then unfortunately there is no way for us to help you retrieve your contact list :/

    HI. I just installed Viber on my windows phone (Nokia Lumia 800). I entered my phone number but it is not accepted (the entered phone number is not valid). Today, I did the same thing but it works. Now when I enter my name and press continue this message is displayed (Viber service is currently unabailable or being blocked). It is not true because it is not the first time to install Viber. It tried it with iOS and Android. (country = Tunisia)

    Someone has an idea?

      It could be that the network you are connected to is blocking Viber’s traffic.

      1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connecting to a few different WiFi networks (in order to pinpoint the source of the problem). What are the results?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled (“forwarded”) on your routers or firewalls:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, you may contact your router manufacturer)
