How can I delete my Viber account?

Automatic removal
If you delete the Viber application from your iPhone, or, if your account is inactive for any other reason, your address book data will be removed from Viber servers after 45 days. However, the good news is your phone number (account) will be removed only after 1 year of inactivity.

Instant removal
Viber 2.0 has a “Deactivate Account” option under a “More” tab that instantly deactivates your account. By choosing to deactivate your account in this manner, you will be deleted from the list of Viber contacts on your friends’ phones.

It is good to know, although you have never explicitly created a Viber account as such, it will be created as soon as you have typed in your phone number during the process of application activation. In short, your phone number is your account. Your address book data and your call logs are stored and associated together with it.

    As said 1000s time before my phone won't ring actually o nothing at all when somebody calls me. It makes the whole thing pretty much useless. Do you finally have an answer to this or will you still keep ignoring this questions that may people ask on so many different sites and forums? Thanks.

      viber will only ring IF you've got the app open. If it's on the iphone home screen, you won't see anything but a missed call. so, if you're expecting a call and want to actually hear a ringtone, keep viber open

    What device are you using?
    What exactly iOS version do you have?
    Is it jailbreak version?
    Did you tried to uninstall and install Viber again?
    Does any of your friends have similar issue?

    hey guys, I need some help. I accidentally deactivated the account. How do i reinstate it? I reinstalled viber but I can't see my viber contact friends anymore.. anyway to fix this? Much appreciated!

      We are currently having some issues with our servers, so that is probably the cause to your problem.
      We are working hard to fix this issue, and hope that it will be resolved even today (after it's solved, you should see all your Viber contacts identified with the Viber badge next to their names).

      Please test it later tonight and tomorrow and let us know if the problem persists.

    I had a problem where viber refused to recognise any internet connection to send messages or phone calls, so I tried to uninstall and reinstall. However I didn't deactivate my account before uninstalling, and now that i've reinstalled I can't reactivate (the code it sent me is saying invalid, I am assuming because it is the same code as before along with the same number). Is this still a server problem, or am I now unable to use viber on my number?

      Enter Viber and find a person you know has Viber in the "All" contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he's recognized as a Viber user now.

      If it doesn't work, please try manually dialing the number in its FULL format (including the "+" sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

    Damn thing doesn't work or even show up on android market for the HTC Wildfire.
    you've tested every single version of the HTC but not the main cheaper model the wildfire.

    other than that great application works well on my galaxy appollo

      It is an anti-spam mechanism we enabled (so people won't registered many times consecutively).
      Please wait 24 hours and then try again, and let me know if you still have problems receiving the code.

    I want to deactivate this viber account. After clicking option to continue deleting it…it keep asking me to authourised them to access my phone address book. I can't process it unless authorized ,can' go back to re clck deactivate account either.this is crazy… Its a total nightmare… What can i do?

      If Viber has already been installed, then you should simply go to "More" tab, and choose "Deactivate".
      If Viber hasn't been installed yet, you can simply remove the app from your iPhone (in the regular way).

      I also got the same problem on my phone where I’m trying to deactivate my viber account too! damn thing isn’t allowing it. It keeps coming up with the same message that I pretty much have to accept viber needs to access my address book. I have followed the so called simple steps viber support tells you to and it takes you around the bend. I do not like this app already vibers own so called simple steps on how to deactivate viber account is misleading.

      It then wants to send you a new activation code cos it gives you no option but to accept. I just want out. I want to instantly deactivate my account and not just delete the app on my phone as this means viber will still have access to myphone for a whole year! All I want is to deactivate but it’s not the simple way

        I think there is a little bit too much of a “conspiracy” feeling… no? :)

        The steps to delete/deactivate ARE simple:
        1. If you already installed, you need to deactivate your account by going to “More” tab, then “Deactivate”.
        2. If you still haven’t installed and you strictly don’t want Viber to simply import your addressbook so it can recognize which of your friends has Viber installed (and that information is saved for few months, by the way, not a year!), then simply go to your phone’s desktop and delete it the normal way. If there is a temporary problem doing so, simply reboot your phone and delete it again.

      If it only says "Error", then this is the known symptom in the UAE.

      We assume you live in the UAE?

      The UAE decided to block Viber, this is why you are getting the error. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it :(
      Try contacting Etisalat (or the authorities) and ask for the reason for this block.

      Alternately, you can try using a VPN connection. For more details, google it and find more people in the UAE who will guide you how to do it.

      Please check your Push Notifications, and make sure they are turned on.
      If your iPhone is jailbroken, then that might be the reason – it interferes with Push Notifications mechanism, and unfortunately there is not much we can do :(

      Did you check your internet connection and make sure it was working?

      If it still doesn’t work, reboot your phone and try again. It should be fine after that.

    My Viber account on iphone stopped sending and receiving text messages yesterday. The preview of an incoming message appeared but no messages visible when I clicked and opened to read them.           Please note that Viber does not officially support iPhone 3G at this stage, as stated in our website (we support iPhone 3Gs and above), and that is probably the reason for the problems you are experiencing.     My viber will motile on my iPhone 4 running 4.3.5.
    It allows me to go through the setup process until I enter the code thanit flashes and goes backup the home screen.
    After that it when I press the icon it flashes and goes back to the home screen.

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and it does the same thing

    Is it possible another app is interfering with this app

    Please help.

        We are about to release a new version (2.1.3) within a week to a week and a half hopefully. Once available on AppStore, please download it and see if it solves your problem.

        Is there some way to retrieve the data from the phone itself? Perform some kind of recovery, that can bring back the information from the phone and not from your servers?
        What about if the account is deactivated, is there a way to access the information even if this action has been performed? Again, not from your servers but from within the phone.

          If you backed up your iPhone using iTunes, you might want to try to load the previous backup and see what Viber is like on that previous back up.

          About the deactivation – unfortunately, as I said, we don’t keep such information in our servers, so we can do little to help in this case :(

      No, he will not.
      Just like your regular phone contact list, if you add someone, it doesn’t mean necessarily that they have you, so you shouldn’t worry :)

            There is no other way for you to receive the notifications if that’s true.

            Try to install Viber from scratch, then deactivate it as I suggested above.

      It might be that the networks you are using are blocking Viber. Please specify what country you’re located in and which cellular network.

      Now:
      1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your routers:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)

    I was having an issue with having two numbers active on my viber account. I recently changed numbers, but did not deactivate viber on the old number. As a result, despite having a viber account with the new number, if someone viber calls my old number, I still receive the calls. Is there any way I can remove this old number from my current viber account?

      Yes,
      Enter Viber, deactivate it now (because it’s still associated with the old number). Wait about 10 minutes, then register again, this time with your new number. Now, after activated, People who call your old number will get nothing, and your new Viber identity will be your new number.

          This story is really strange, since Viber cannot simply “magically” remember your old number. Once you registered with your current number, it should get its new identity.

          Let’s try this:
          1. Reboot your phone
          2. Try to call a friend through Viber. What number do they see on their screen?
          3. Try to text a friend through Viber. What number now?
          4. Now have that friend call you through Viber with the NEW number. Are you getting the call?
          5. Lastly, have that friend call you on the OLD number. Are you getting the call?

      Deleting only one call from the log is impossible, however cleaning your whole call log is possible.

      This behavior is similar to your regular phone call log.

    I just upgraded my iphone4 to ios 5.0.1 and didn’t backup my data so i lost everything(including the access code sms), then I reinstalled viber but it ask to enter my phone number again, so I did it but never receive the access code message or call. I didn’t deactivate my viber account when I did the upgrade. Is that the reason why it’s not sending me a new access code?? Because I’m already registered? Do I need to use the old access code they sent me before? I want to use the same phone number. What can I do in my case? Thank you.

      Are you sure you simply upgraded (on top of the old one), and you didn’t uninstall and only then reinstall?
      If that’s indeed the case, then your data should not have been erased.

    I have a samsung galaxy ace running android 2.3.3. I installed viber late last week. I can make calls to a friend with a Samsung galaxy ace running 2.3.5 on a different telco. Their phone rings whether viber is minimised or not. When they call me my phone will only ring if I have viber open – ie it wont ring when minimised. I just get a toolbar message that I have missed calls as soon as they hang up.

    I upgraded to viber 2.1.4 yesterday. I closed the program, uninstalled, restarted the phone, installed the new version (have also restarted the phone). Same thing – phone wont ring unless viber is fully open.

    I would really like to use viber but I cant use it if it wont ring….

      Are you using a Custom ROM on your phone, or stock ROM?

      Also – have you tried testing Viber on a few different WiFi network in order to see if that’s the problem?

      Lastly, do you have a Google Account assigned with your phone?

        I havent tried it on a WiFi network. Just 3G. Will try a 3G network and get back to you.

          I connected to wifi and minimised viber. My friend called me and the phone rang! Unfortunately it would just say “answering” and then the call got dropped – I tried several times with the same result.

            Please make sure neither you nor the other side are connected to networks that might be blocking Viber (for example – a router running a firewall).

    I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 2.3.4. I upgraded Viber to the latest version yesterday and since then, I can only use Viber when switched to WiFi mode. If I try to send a message when on 3G mode, Viber shows a message saying that my Packed Data Mode is not activated, which is not true since I can surf Internet, send and receive MMS, and use WhatsApp correctly. Please tell me what to do to have my Viber back and working correctly because this is so frustrating. Thanks

            We have detected another error in our current release 2.1.5 – that is why unfortunately the problem persists.

            Our development is working around the clock to complete a new fixed version 2.1.6 that will resolve the 3G issue. If all goes as planned, it should be released early next week.

            Are you sure the workaround we described above did not work?

            Reminder: please switch to 3G (with Viber already opened). Now go to “More” tab inside the app, then choose “Exit”. Now reopen the app, give it several seconds, and see if it connects.

            Hi hello. I tried the workaround but not only the 2.1.6 update is not working but now, Viber also drains my battery within few hours when I switch back to 3G. My network icon is always set on H/H+ and continusly communicating with the network (the 2 arrows keep on blinking…). I cannot send or receive any messages in 3G mode but only in WiFi mode. Once uninstalled, the normal life of my phone resumes… Looks that I’m gonna have to say farewell to Viber… :-( (((((. Please fix the problem because I like to much Viber to live without it….

    This is bizarre! Imagine the confusion it causes when someone sees you on their viber contact list – tries to call or msg you but never hears back from you :-S
    Is there a way for viber to delete my account entirely once I have deleted the app? I removed the app from my iPhone some weeks back but am showing up in friends’ lists. Need to know how to fix this issue.

      Deleting Viber (as opposed to deactivating) makes it impossible to us (technically) to know whether or not that user intends to reinstall Viber later, or plans to stop using it altogether. This is why there is a wait of 45 days during which if we see no activity on the account, it is automatically deleted, and only then you will stop appearing as a Viber user to your contacts.

      The instant way to do it, however, is to deactivate Viber instead of uninstalling it. This is done through the “More” tab inside Viber.

    I changed my phone number due to harrassment. I have deactivated viber, not just uninstalled it and reactivated it with my new number. I still receive push notifications from the harrasser who is using my old number, although I am unable to reply to the message and the message does not show up in the message history. It simply disappears after I click on it. How do I stop receiving these messages that are being sent to my old phone number.?

      Unfortunately, if that harrasser knows your real new number, then they also have the ability to contact you via Viber (since Viber’s ID is your actual phone number).

      Unfortunately there is no way to block a user on Viber. Just like the cellular system, if someone knows your number, they can unfortunately call you at any time they please :(

        I also have the same problem, i changed my number, activated the viber with the new number but calls from previous contact keeps on showing up in viber as missed calls while leaving no trace of contact on the new number. I am unable to go into the previous number to deactivate it without a validation code(as i already changed my number). Kindly help me, so i do not receive harassment viber calls from the old number

    Im about to go overseas and i want to know if, when i connect to a wifi network whether any messages recived on viber while i was out of data connection will automatically pop up just like a normal text message? Or if i need to go into the viber app and look if there are any new?

      Yep,

      Viber messages pend in our servers for up to 2 weeks while you are offline, and when you connect back to the internet they should arrive at your Viber safe and sound ;)

      It is not possible to deactivate the number without a new phone. What you need to do, is to install Viber on a new phone (even a friend’s smartphone, temporarily) and register to Viber using the same phone number with which you originally registered. This will immediately deactivate the Viber app on your stolen phone.

    Hi, I couldn’t find a related question to my problem so hoping you can address it here! I had created a Viber account using my number but did not verify it. Recently my phone was stolen. I don’t know whether the person who stole it got past the passcode to my phone or simply removed my SIM card and placed it in his own, but he has obviously used my number to to activate a Viber account. I know this because my dad, who uses Viber, received a notification that my number has now joined Viber. I have blocked my SIM and got a new one, but now I would like to know if and how I can prevent the thief from using a Viber account associated with my number.

      Hi Kate,

      In order to deactivate their account (making sure they don’t use Viber with your old number), you’ll need to activate Viber again using the same number (your old number) on a new device. This will automatically deactivate the Viber account on the stolen phone.

      This is the only way to deactivate an account remotely.

      Viber should not be affected at all when you switch SIM cards (since Viber is “linked” with the device itself).

      This problem might have had a different source.

    Excuse me, i have a problem with my viber.
    today, when i woke up, i saw the new version of Viber (on my Samsaung Galaxy Advance-android).
    when i upgraded it to new version, it didn’t work.
    So, i uninstalled it and deleted the viber folder.
    I installed it again but after first “Continue”in setup menu,
    it seeked my contacts and never go on.
    I can’t receive NEW CODE via sms or Call.

    Hi, Today, my servicer (Sprint) has changed
    me for the long distance call @ 1.97 cents a minute…ouch! Not a
    happy Viper user at the moment. What happen? Can someone please let me understand how to avoid this in the future. This is very disappointing

      Please make sure that this is not a network-related issue, by rebooting your phone, then connecting to a few different WiFi networks.
