Can I use Viber on an iPad or an iPod Touch?

Yes you can, no matter if you don’t have a 3G version and here is a quick guide how to do it.

To activate Viber on your iPad (or iPod Touch), you can use the number of your cellphone. After you have received an SMS with an activation code in it, just enter it into your iPad or iPod Touch and that’s it.

Viber was primarily developed for iPhones, therefore, to achieve maximum experience, it is recommended to use an iPhone with iOS 4. Even though Viber is known to work on iPod Touch and iPads, they are not officially supported.

I got an iPad that is connected to my home wireless network. Signal strength of my wifi in my ipad is almost full strength. However, viber application indicates poor signal strength, that's why it can't hear incoming voice call but it got a clear outgoing voice call.

  Did you make sure the other side is connected to a high-speed WiFi connection as well?

    I am usiing a droid x on the other side via a 3G connection. My Droid X has been tested by calling an iPhone with a 3G connection.

Even if 3G worked, it still doesn't mean the WiFi connection is good.
Please perform the test I suggested, and it'll help us pinpoint the source of the problem.

  I tried using the iPad again on the same WiFi network. It is working fine now, having a moderate to excellent strength. I can now hear the incoming voice.

  Do i need at least a Wireless N or Wireless G router is ok?

    There is no special requirement for the wireless type, but in general, as long as the connection bandwidth and speed is higher, so will the quality of the Viber call be higher.
    
    This is why using Viber on 3G may be disrupted at times (because of the low-quality of the network), but WiFi connections are usually clear and without a problem.

Hello !
Viber was working on my Android phone.
In order to activate it on my iPad wifi (not 3g), i received my activation code on myAndqroid phone.
Viber is now activated on my iPad and working fine, but my account on my phone is disabled….
How can I activate Viber on the 2 machines, with only 1 phone number ?

I'm going to be crazy: a friend of mine and myself have both an iPod touch bought a couple of days ago. On his device, no problem to configure Viber, it's working perfectly but on my one, impossible to receive the code. I entered my cellphone's number but nothing happends after hitting the "continue" button, it looks like this "continue" button is not active. I checked and the Notifications are ON.
Precisions: the iPod is not jailbreaked and it's strangely working with my iPad.
So what can / do I have to do to activate it on the iPod touch?

  A "stuck" Continue button is at most cases a problem with Push Notifications, and that is almost always the result of a Jailbroken iPod. Are you sure it's not jailbroken?

    Yes I'm sure it's not jailbroken, I just bought it yesterday and started to install some applications. As explained before, it's working on my iPad, so I used an other cellphone's number for the iPod to be sure to not have a conflict, but without success.
    Just an additionally information: the iPad and iPod are both synchronized on the same laptop with the same account. Can this be a reason of the issue?

      This *could* be the reason, but we haven't encountered such a problem before.

        As specified in our support forums, Viber does not *fully* support iPad and iPod. The stuck continue button issue is at 90% of the cases related to the fact that they’re Jailbroken, but if not – there’s not much we can offer

on the other hand when i click on the function 2 receive a call w/ the activation code from my ipad i don't get any call : is that normal ?

  I'm not sure I understood your question fully..
  The number you register your iPad with is the number that will be dialed (through Viber!) in order to call your iPad, and the number that will show when you call (through Viber!) from your iPad.
  
  If your iPad 3G has its own SIM card (and thus – its own cellular number), then simply type in that number when you register Viber in your iPad, and the SMS will actually be received directly to your iPad, thus your Viber number will be your genuine cellular number of your iPad.

    that's exactly what i meant, if i register my ipad w/ some other number (belonging 2 a friend etc) i would then need 2 give that number 2 my contacts who obviously don't have it since it's not my number if i want them 2 b able 2 call me …
    regarding my ipad having its own sim card that's what i'm telling u, when i register the ipad & type my genuine cellular number i don't receive any sms & if i click on the "no code?" button i don't get any call either !!! did the operation several times w/ same negative effect … any idea why ?

      What most people do is register with their home numbers (landline), so the Viber number is associated with them.
      
      The fact that you don't get the SMS actually has nothing to do with the fact that you're trying to register using an iPad. It's purely coincidental.
      
      Try to remove Viber, wait 24 hours, and reinstall.
      If it still doesn't work, reply back to me and tell me what country you are located in, and which cellular provider you are connected to.

I have installed viber in my iPhone 3GS(Phil) and so is my sister in new York. But she doesn't have the viber icon on my contacts and when I tried calling her the prompt will read she's not registered and the same goes with her I'm not registered. Though there are people in my contacts with the icon viber acrossed their names whom I successfully send msgs and called. I tried uninstaling and installing I have d same results. I have globe as my operator not sure with my sister mine is jailbroken I think hers is not

  If it doesn't work, please try manually dialing the number in its FULL format (including the "+" sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

I have Viber installed on my Ipad 2 and im connected to my wifi network but when i enter my number and hit continue it just stop working for about a minute and then gives me this messege: “An internet connection is required to set up Viber. Check your connection and try again. The operation couldn’t be completed. (HTTP error 503.)

No my ipad is not jailbroken i am sure and the internet is working perfectly on safari and all the other apps that use internet are working too.HELP

  1. Please take your iPad2 to a different WiFi network, in order to isolate the problem. Does it work there?
  2. Did you try removing Viber, waiting 24 hours, and reinstalling?
  3. Did you check if your WiFi network is behind a router or a firewall, that might cause such block of ports?

I hv an viber on my iPhone 3GS and my gf has on her iPod 4th generation. ..while having conversation …sometimes viber on her iPod starts ringing in bw ….and it doesn't go away ..she has installed viber again but problem is still there??any solution??..thanx

  2. Does this problem happen to her with other people she calls? Does it happen to you with other people?

  I have had the same issue while talking on my iTouch 4th gen to an iPhone 4. While talking after a while, Viber begins ringing and won’t stop (even after I end the call). This has happened to me now on three seperate occasions. Does anyone know what is causing this?

  In general, you should have no problem registering with the same number again.
  
  You need to deactivate the current number, remove Viber, wait 24 hours, and reinstall. You should then write the old number again, and receive the SMS (or try the automated call).

  Since the access code is sent to the telephone number which you’re registering, you must have this number activated in order to receive the access code. This can also be a temporary number, used only for the setup of Viber. e.g. phone card, landline etc.

Got my access code, but in my contact list, those with viber doesnt have an icon next to their names. When I try calling them, it says they dont hv viber installed. When they try to call me, it says on their iphones that I dont have viber installed. So strange. Maybe viber really doesnt work well on ipad.

i have viber installed on my iphone 4. It has been working brilliantly but the sound has suddenly stopped working on calls and the only way i can hear the other persons voice is by putting it on load speaker which obviously is not good when in company!

i have the first ipod touch (the one without the camra) and i downloaded viber i can text people , i can ring them but when its in call i cant hear anything or the person on the other line cant hear me .. i know its like this because the ipod i have doesnt have a speaker at the bottom of it like the iphone or the new ipod touch does.

I got the same error. My viber (the old version) suddenly stopped working and I upgraded viber. When I entered my number no sms was sent. I deleted the viber (the upgraded) and downloaded it again. I installed Viber on my iTouch a few months ago prior to the recent two updates and I was able to hear a ring when someone called me even if I didn’t have my ear buds plugged into the iTouch.   However, the warning message itself is what makes sure you don’t “accidentally” make an international call.
  
  By the way – if your brother in Germany has Viber installed, but he’s simply not connected to the internet, Viber should still ring on your side, as if it’s just a regular missed Viber call (it shouldn’t switch to normal call automatically).

Just tried to register on an IPAD2. When we try to send the SMS number (another phone), there’s a message about “push notifications”. Well – they are switched on. Tried again – same result. Using Viber on ipod touch 1G, never thought i would use it again.

When i sent a message to one of my contact and it says “sent”, does the person get the push notification and then check the message so i will get a “delivered” status next to the message? Not sure if the message gets noticed once i get that “sent” status next to a message.

Can someone shed some light on this?

  Unfortunately not. If you have a device that can install Viber, but it can’t receive the SMS or our callback, then you need to use your cellphone and then Viber will have its identity the same as the phone with which you registered.

  Open Viber and find a person you know who has Viber in the “All” contact list. To reboot synchronization, change a digit, save and exit the contact list. Open contact again, change the digit back to the original, correct number, save and exit. Wait for approximately 10 minutes and see if the contact is now recognized as a Viber user.

While traveling around the world, Viber on my iPad was perfect. It kept me in touch with people I needed to communicate with, and I encouraged a number of people to join. Since I came back to the US, though, it’s not working right on my iPad. I don’t want to put it back on my iPhone because it’s much more useful on the iPad, actually. Anyway — I get SMS messages — they show up in the banner — but then they’re gone when I go to Viber. I keep Viber in the background, and have even redownloaded it and reinstalled it. It still happens. I’m having people move to iMessage instead, since i need to get their texts. But is there a solution to the problem (or an iPad version coming soon)?

  Hi,
  This problem can have many different reasons.
  
  First – have you tested Viber when both you and the other sides are connected to a few different WiFi networks?
  Also – have you made sure this isn’t a problem with the other side’s device?
  
  Lastly – is your iPad2 jailbroken?

  It could be that your relatively old version of Android collides with Viber.
  Have you considered upgrading your Android version to a later version?
  
  Also – have you tested Viber on a few different WiFi networks, in order to eliminate the possibility that this is a network-related issue?

Viber isnt working, i send a text and it says delivered, but he says he never gets it. Same thing is happening on his end too, he sends a text , it says delivered, but i never get it . I have never had a problem with it til now… I am able to send texts to *other* people and they can reply; i do get the messages and can reply. He can also send texts to others and it goes through… Its just when we send viber texts to each other, Its says delivered,but me or him are able to get the messages .. Please help……! I have the Ipod Touch 4 generation . He has iphone 4s. I have tried using different WIFI. and have deleted viber , waited a day , then reinstall it. . Anything else i can do?

Hi, I have an iPad 3 and I installed Viber as I had done with my iPhone 3G. However, it comes up with a message about my push notifications being off despite it being on. Also, sometimes it says my iPad is not complatible and that Viber is working on the compatibility. Any tips as to what I have to do? Thanks in advance.

  One Viber number can be assigned to only 1 device simultaneously, so what you are describing doesn’t seem possible. Once you activate Viber with the same number on a second device, the first one automatically and immediately deactivates.
  
  About the message-sending problem, you might want tot est it in a few different WiFi networks, in order to find the source of the problem.

Okay so I use viber on my iPod touch and I only text other viber users, is it possible that the texts would appear on my phone bill? Because my phone bill said I sent 800 texts but my phone says I sent abOut 200, and viber is the only other way I message people.

  When using Viber on an iPod, you can only be using WiFi networks. Because of that, you couldn’t have been charged for your data by your cellular company, so the text messages you saw on your phone bill had nothing to do with Viber, for sure

  Instructions for activating Viber on iPod/iPad/Tablet:
  
  1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod/Tablet.
  2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone’s number (or any other number of yours that can receive the code, for example a landline (fixed) number, a prepaid number, etc.), then confirm.
  3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
  4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod/Tablet. Viber will then be activated, and you’re good to go.
  
  * this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod/Tablet.
  ** Please note that Viber does not officially support iPods/iPads/Tablets yet. In the future, we plan to release fully compatible versions, but unfortunately we still don’t know when exactly it will be ready.

  Please try removing Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options).
