Can I have same Viber account on two different devices?

Yes, you can! But only if one of the devices is your computer (PC or Mac). Viber Media Inc. launched Viber desktop version in May 2013. read more about Viber desktop…

What does it mean? Well, it means that you still can not have one Viber account on multiple devices. At this stage, one Viber number can be assigned with only one device simultaneously. When you try registering to Viber with the same number on a second device, the first device immediately deactivates, and its data (message history, Recents, etc.) is deleted. What you can do, however, is register your second device with a different number: your home number, an old cellphone number, family’s or friends… The only requirement is that you are able to receive an activation SMS on it.
In future versions Viber Media Inc. is planning to add an option to register Viber on multiple devices.

      Install Viber on your new device, enter your phone number (should be the same number, according to what you explained), and you should get the same code. If you don't get the code, simply enter the same code you received with your old device.

        After I’d installed MIUI (1.8.19) Viber has begun asking me for a new activation. I entered the same phone number, but I didn’t get the same code. After using this code the application told me that service was deactivated on my device and forced me for a new registration (entering phone number and getting sms), and it was several times and each time the code returned was different. Now I can’t using Viber cause it refuses from sending new sms and making voice callbacks with activation codes. What could you recommend?

          Please check your IMEI number inside the phone’s “About” page. Once you found it, please compare it with the real IMEI number that’s written on the back of your phone.

          Some custom ROMs override the original IMEI you had when you received your phone, and this is the cause to the problem. In other words, this issue is the fault of the ROM developers.             Please try the following workaround:

            Enter Viber and find a person you know has Viber in the “All” contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he’s recognized as a Viber user now.

            If it doesn’t work, please go to Viber’s DialPad and try to manually dial the number in its FULL format (including the “+” sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

    I have a problem because of my stupid friend.
    I am using Android version of Viber. When I first get it from market, I can get the sms activation code within 1 min. then I used it, it works great.
    Then I tell my friend and ask her to install, however, she typed in my phone number when she open the apps. After that, I received the sms of another activation code but I did not provide the code to her.
    I afraid that will have problem so I deleted my app and reinstalled it again, this time, I can’t receive any sms for the activation code.

    I would like to ask 2 questions related to the above case…
    1. Are there any side effects if someone tries to type my phone number when they first time open Viber? (such as, my friend will find her rather than me)

    2. I need to wait for how long time to apply it again if I want to receive the sms activation code in the second time?

      In general, there should be no problem receiving the code even after someone accidentally registered with your number.
      Your inability to receive the code is derived by a different cause.

      Please try the following:

      - Remove Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options).

      - If still nothing, register with a different number (for example – your home number), then register with your cellular number again.

      - If you still receive nothing, contact our support team at http://support.viber.com and give them the details of the problem. It’s probably not a Viber problem anymore, but rather a problem with your cellular provider not delivering our SMS for some reason.

    I have a multi-card from my phone provider which means I have 2 sim card which belong to 1 phone number, so I can use 2 different devices. Now, both are android phones and I would like to activate Viber on both. But whenever I switch on one of them I have to re-activate the account which is stupid and takes time.       Viber is assigned with a device, not with a cellular number or a SIM card (meaning – the Viber on your device, even if it’s multi-card, contains only 1 identity).

      At this stage there is no way to change it. We might develop an option in the future that lets you switch Viber identities, but at this stage simply keep Viber installed and don’t change its number. You’ll have a constant Viber number even when you switch SIM card. Just choose one of them to be your permanent one and keep it.

    Hi there. My friend lost her Iphone 4.

    She deactivated the SIM card, and repurchased a SIM carrying the original phone number. She also reinstalled Viber and used the same phone number for Viber on the new iphone.

    Apparently the Viber on the lost iphone was not deactivated, and her text messages with others were “shared” by a stranger who got the lost Iphone. The stranger even called and told some of the text message details.

    Anyone had similar experience? Does re-installation Viber on an iphone automatically deactivate the Viber account on the lost one using the same Viber number?

      Hi,
      Reinstallation is not identical to deactivation. However, installing Viber and activating it with the same phone number as before (you’re saying that she has a new SIM with the original number) should automatically deactivate the Viber account on the lost iPhone.

      What may have happened is that the person who took the iPhone read the messages that had already been received on the phone prior to the loss, but again – once your friend activated her Viber on her new phone with the same number, the person with the lost iPhone can no longer make/receive texts or calls using your friend’s number.

        I read about the experience that people cannot use Viber on a second device with the same phone number, but this is just the user end. Do you know if a text message will show up on both devices? As you may know, once I get a Viber message, it will show up on the screen, without even my entering the Iphone pass code.

        My friend and I have been called by strangers who know some of the text message details. This is very annoying and frustrating.

            What you’re saying isn’t accurate. As I explained above, once someone activates Viber on a second device (what happened to your friend AFTER her phone got stolen), then the first device is deactivated and can no longer recieve calls or texts, nor send calls or texts. Meaning – the messages *don’t* show up on the other person’s device now.

            About the people who know about the texts’ content – again I explained: *always*, not only when it comes to Viber, if someone finds your phone, they know two things: your phone number, and the content of the messages that had already been received in that phone. There is nothing we can do to help here, nor is it “Viber’s fault”. This could happen to anyone who loses their phone, regardless of what applications are installed.

      First – if you have a SIM in your iPad, then you should be able to register to Viber with the number of the iPad itself. Did you try it?

      Secondly – yes, you can register Viber on any device with any number that you want, as long as you received the SMS with code and entered that code correctly on the device where you registered.

        When installing Viber on a second device with the same number, the Viber account on the older device should simply be deactivated (it shouldn’t give you an error message).

        Try this:
        1. Deactivate Viber on your older device (inside “More” tab).
        2. Delete Viber on your new iPhone
        3. Restart your new iPhone.
        4. Wait 24 hours.
        5. Now try to install Viber from AppStore on your new iPhone.

        Does it work now?

    I got Viber installed on my previous galaxy that has been lost and have no longer access to it .. i got a new one , the problem is , i installed Viber on the new phone and got my activation code and it did login BUT after less than a minute i got this message
    “Sorry you are not registered to this service”
    and it goes back to the screen where i need to put activation code ..i tried with my friends phone number, i receive the code, i login to Viber but once again that message pops up , reinstalled but still the same , tried diff 3 numbers also with the automatic phone call.

    please advice .

        Are you using a custom ROM?

        If you are, please check your IMEI number (universal device identification number) inside the phone’s “About” page. Once you found it, please compare it with the real IMEI number that’s written on the back of your phone.

        This issue should be resolved in the upcoming Viber 2.1.3 (coming to Market within the next week or two).

      When you change number (but not the device itself), Viber is still installed on your current device with the OLD number as the identifier. If you’d like to change your Viber number, simply deactivate Viber (through “More” tab), and reinstall, this time with your new number. Then people will not be able to call you on Viber now, unless they know your new telephone number :)

    I have 3 phones, 2 iphones and one regular phone, I used to have vibers installed on both phones (using the number of my prepaid phone) and it was working fine but I changed it to my new number..Then after syncing, whenever I used viber on my iphone4s, it logs me out on my iphone4..

    What I’ve been trying to figure out is how to use my prepaid number and use it on my iphone 4, then use the line number for my iphone 4s. both different accounts. and BTW I’m using one computer and apple ID.

          To be honest, we are not sure what will happen if you try to sync 2 numbers on your iTunes. That is something you need to check with Apple.

        Simply download Viber on your Android and register. After activating on your Android, the old account (on your older phone) should automatically and immediately be deactivated, and you’re good to go :)

      Viber requires a one-time registration through a cellular SMS or a voice-call. Once you have that, you can use Viber on your WiFi-only device without a problem :)

Is this a problem with using the same number?       The problem you are experiencing has nothing to do with the fact that you’re trying to register the same number. The source of the problem is different.

      First, please note that Viber does not officially iPad. Having said that, please specify whether your iPad is Jailbroken or not.

      It sounds like one of the sides of the conversation (either you, or your friends in Jordan and Palestine) is being blocked.

      Please test Viber when you and the other side are connected to a few different WiFi networks, and the cellular 3G network. Does the same problem occur on all of those?

      Then there is a chance that your country or your ISP have blocked Viber completely. In order to verify this, you’ll need to ask your friends (both in Jordan and in Saudi Arabia) to test Viber. If all of them are experiencing the same problem, then unfortunately this is probably a nation-wide block :(

      Here are the instructions for getting the code for an iPad or iPod:

      1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod.
      2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone’s number, then confirm.
      3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
      4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod. Viber will then be activated, and you’re good to go.

      * this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod.

    You DON’T actually have to be able to receive an SMS activation code on it at all. We simply typed in the land line number instead. Then when it asks did you receive the code, we simply proceeded to get the code via the next option which calls you on the number you provided, (in this case our land line number), and automatically tells you the code.
    All done.

    A different situation. I like to activate Viber on one device but with two different phone numbers. I currently have Viber connected to my Swedish number, but I am Living in UK having a UK number as well. I would like the option to ad this UK-number to my current Viber account so that whether another user has my Swedish number or my UK number they will be able to connect with me through Viber.

    And if I move somewhere else in the future I might what to merge that number to my Viber account as well….

    I am using viber with galaxy S2, when i use my wired headset, my friend complaint to me the volume is way too soft. I have verified and checked that there’s no problem with my phone (with sound recording, replay back was loud without viber, and even tried with another headset), even normal call with headset is loud and clear. I believe this is a bug on viber and some user complaint this before, please advise support?

      Viber does support most Bluetooth/headset devices in general. However, some are not supported, due to the restrictions within the phone itself (sometimes certain iPhone/Android features or external devices cannot work with 3rd-party applications). We have fixed Viber in our lastest versions so MOST of the BT/headset devices can work, but unfortunately some others are just not fully compatible with 3rd-party applications.

    hi there, my question is quite similar to the thread but i cant seem to find the right answer :( my question is: I have given my old iphone to my husband with the Viber app installed on it, but i had to do the back up so i can still have everything the same on my new Iphone. The problem is, we cant call each other on Viber anymore.       And yes – if you activate Viber using a number (any number), then that number will appear on the recipient’s screen when you call/text them through Viber.

      Insructions for activating Viber on iPod/iPad:

      1. connect to WiFi from your iPad/iPod.
      2. download and install Viber app. when asked for your number, enter your regular cellphone’s number, then confirm.
      3. an SMS message with the code will be sent to your regular cellular phone.
      4. take that code and use it in your iPad/iPod. Viber will then be activated, and you’re good to go.

      * this means that if anyone dials your number on Viber, you will get the call on your iPad/iPod.

          He would have to register Viber with *some* number. It could even be a temporary pre-paid number, for example.

        Unfortunately, the answer is no. At this stage, Viber can only have 1 number assigned for only 1 device. So if you want to use Viber on more devices, you will need to register them with other numbers. For example – your home number, a friend’s cell phone number, etc.

          I have successfully used Viber on my iPhone 3G for 18 months (Australia, Optus, 3G and Wifi). I was playing with my iPad over the weekend and appear to have installed Viber on it, linked to my same mobile number…it now doesn’t work on my iPhone, which is where I need it to be active.
          I’ve deactivated and uninstalled from iPad, hoping that would make the iPhone version kick back in, but it is still dead (constant “sending…” until the msg fails).
          I’m scared to deactivate or uninstall on the iPhone because I don’t want to lose my message history.
          I have emailed the message history to myself – is there anyway I can either re-import that into a newly installed iPhone version of Viber, or am I safe to deactive and reactivate within the iPhone without losing my msg history?

            Hi,

            Unfortunately, since Viber cannot be used with the same number on 2 devices simultaneously, the moment you activated Viber on your iPad, it immediately deactivated Viber on your iPhone, thus deleting your account (including your messages).

            This means that the only way to reinstall Viber on your iPhone is to activate it again with the same number, but then your message history is unfortunately lost :(

            In future versions we plan to introduce an option to export message history from Viber.

            And, if you’d like to use Viber on your iPad as well, you’ll need to register it with a different number. For example – your home landline number.

      Hi Lue,

      What you need to do is to enter Viber, go to “More” tab, choose “Deactivate”. Then reboot your phone, enter Viber again, and you will be asked to enter the phone number in the registration page. Now, enter your own number (not your sister’s), and that’s it :)

      On her new phone, she should install Viber and register with her own number as usual.

    Hi, I installed Viber on my Iphone4 but Im travelling at the moment and havent brought that phone with me.I have brought an old nokia phone with me which I have put the sim into. I also have an IPhone 3 with me which has no sim. I was able to install Viber on the IPhone 3 using wifi at the airport but it is saying something about Push notifications.       1. About the message you are seeing about the Push Notifications:

    My girlfriend installed viber onto a 2nd device without knowing that it wasn’t possible to use the same number on both devices. Now she realises that she can’t send messages from her iphone after activating the additional account on her ipod. She has now deactivated the account on her ipod and deleted the app in the hope that the original account on her iphone would begin working again. Unfortunately it hasn’t. Is there a simple way of restoring the account without having to deactivate the account from her iphone, deleting the app and reinstalling it, and not losing her history in the process?

      At this stage, 1 Viber number can be assigned to only 1 device simultaneously. The moment that the same Viber number is registered on a second device, the first one gets automatically deactivated, and the message history is unfortunately lost :-(

      In the future we are considering to implement a feature that should allow the insatllation of Viber on multiple devices.

I entered the same mobile number on 2 different phones to register, and I didn’t receive an access code on any, even after clicking the “Click here if you didn’t receive code within 60 seconds”.         I am using an htc explorer and a samsung galaxy mini and having viber 2.2 installed on Android 2.3.5 crashed more often than when using 1.6. I am referring to system crashes (with reports to the manufacturer), not Viber ones.
        I could help you more on this since I work in software QA but my phones are not officially supported by Viber. Regards.

        I made this mistake by activating viber on my new ipad– I had no idea one account couldn’t be installed on multiple devices unlike skype and ym–I wish this info was posted explicitly upon installataion or registration. Now, I’ve lost viber on my iphone (and my precious messge history!).
        I have since removed viber on my ipad and reinstalled viber on my iphone…Unfortunately, I can’t reactivate it because I am not getting the code via sms or voice!
        I’ve followed instructions and am still waiting…and waiting…and waiting. I’ve sent an email and one of those troubleshooting ticket things on viber and have yet to receive a response.

Your request is different – you would like to have 2 different Viber numbers on the same device, and this is a feature we are not yet sure when/if we will be developing.       1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connecting to a few different WiFi networks (in order to pinpoint the source of the problem). What are the results?
      2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled (“forwarded”) on your routers or firewalls:
      TCP: 5242 + 4244
      UDP: 5243 + 9785

      (if you are not sure how to enable ports, you may contact your router manufacturer)

      After registering, your Viber ID is the number with which you registered. However, the notifications themselves (calls + messages) arrive on the device where you register. Your uncle’s number will be your Viber number, and that means that in order to call you through Viber, people will need to dial (INSIDE viber) your uncle’s number.

      Viber itself is totally free, meaning we (Viber) don’t charge anything from you.

      Since Viber uses the internet, both sides of the conversation must be connected to either WiFi or 3G. If a user is connected to WiFi – that user is not paying anything for sure. If the user is connected to 3G, the user *may* be paying his cell company for the data (about 0.3MB per minute of call), but that depends on the specific data plan that he has with his cellular company, and needs to be verified with them.

      * Note that when a user is abroad using the cellular network (and not WiFi), there may be high Roaming charges by your cellular company for the data used.

          There’s no technological reason for this, per se. It’s a matter of planning and development, and specifically, this feature that could be very complex to implement.

          We are considering to add this feature in future versions of Viber. We recommend that you stay tuned for news and updates :)

    Viber Desktop + mobile is greate, but my friend has a phone + ipad and it’s a bit annoying for her to use viber on only one of these devices. Are there any plans of having an iPad optimized version which can be used in combination with a phone?

      Yes, a version officially compatible with iPad is planned in the future, but unfortunately we still don’t know when exactly it will be ready.

    I had viber on my old phone and due to the old phone “dying” i got a new phone yesterday. Im trying to install viber and every time i put the new access code in it does nothing, PLEASE HELP

      Please try removing Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options).

      In addition, you may try to register to Viber with a different number (for example – your home landline number, a friend’s number, etc.), in order to determine whether the problem is specific with your number, or a general one.

    I have a HTC explorer along with an iPod Touch
    As of now , is it possible to use my phone no on both the devices simultaneously?
    Or will this only be possible with future updates?
    If that is the case , then when is such an update expected?

    I used to have Viber on my Lumia 920 windows phone 8, then I installed the desktop version without problems, and I also installed Viber on my android tablet. When doing so Viber on the windows phone stopped working. I try reactivating/ and re-installing it many times but I don’t get the sms with the new code nor the phone call. On the other hand it’s really easy to install the program in my other android phone. Is it a problem with Windows phone 8 specifically? How can I get an activation code for the phone. I’m in switzerland but the problem is not carrier related since if I just put my sim card in my android phone I get the sms almost instantly.

      Hi,

      At this stage Viber can be installed on Desktop + 1 mobile device (‘mobile device’ includes Tablets, iPads, etc.)

      In the future we might also allow simultaneous installation on mobile + tablet. We’ll let you know if we have news about it :)

      If the messages had already been successfully sent from your device (before you uninstalled Viber), then yes – they will reach him, but he will not be able to reply to them via Viber (because you don’t have Viber anymore).

    When sending regular SMS from phone, when does it duplicate the messages to viber. Because I was texting from my regular SMS. My viber isn’t even open but it registers in the viber of the person I’m texting. He thinks I’m using viber but I’m not. How is this so? Cause it is becoming an issue for us.

      This is a feature by Viber, called “Free reply with Viber”. You can disable it in More–> Settings–>

      Both sides should disable it for this to stop happening :)

      Hi,

      In order for someone to install Viber Desktop using your number, they need to receive a confirmation code. But that code is sent to the Viber owner (you, in this case).

      You may try install Viber Desktop yourself (it will automatically cause their Viber Desktop to be deactivated).

      If the problem remains after that, please let us know and we will assist.

    You talk about using your home phone number to register a device like an ipad. But the home phone doesn’t get SMS, right? is there another way to register?

    how do you cover your costs if there’s no ads / you don’t charge us? (not that I am complaining, just wanted to know).

      There is an option for an automatic call that reads the code, and so home numbers are an option.

      Currently, Viber’s focus is on adding new features and integrating with more platforms, as well as improving overall system performance. At the same time, we are working on additional premium services that will generate revenue once they become available. The basic Viber service – Viber-to-Viber phone calls and text messages – will always remain free.

    My iphone was stolen. I deactivated my sim/account with my phone provide but wasn’t aware that Viber may still continue to operate with that number anyway? I was using viber desktop to chat with someone just now, and something strange happened. Characters appeared in my txt box – I’m assuming this was a stranger using viber on my stolen phone? I promptly deactivated the viber desktop account. At this stage, how can I ensure that this stranger doesn’t have access to my viber account?

      In order to make sure the Viber account is disabled, you need to register to Viber on your mobile using the same number (of the iPhone that was stolen). Then, Viber will automatically be deactivated on the stolen iPhone.

        Thank you for your reply. At this stage, due to being overseas and physically not having a phone, I can’t operate my existing number (though it is on hold/blocked). Is there another way that I can ensure they can’t access my viber, so that I can use viber desktop without fear of them “eavesdropping”? At this stage without a sim, Viber is proving highly useful to communicate while overseas and I don’t want to go without.

          Unfortunately without a physical hold on the phone, it is impossible to do that :(

          Note that even if you use a help of a friend back in your home country, where your mobile phone is, in order to deactivate Viber, then your Desktop account will automatically be deactivated as well. This is because Viber mobile and Desktop are interconnected.

          Your best option to ensure your privacy is simply to lock your mobile phone (or any other means of securing that other people won’t be able to access it), ensuring nobody can see its content.

    My new cell was not giving me my verification code, however I used my old cell number to have the verification code sent there, it worked and i entered the code on the new cell, it is working great but however it looks like my new cell sync all the contacts of the old cell and the contacts of my new cell. how can I do stop the sync of contacts from my old cell. help plz! I got a new cell to avoid certain people and now they are messaging me! :(

      Hi,

      Viber is synchronized with the contact list of the phone on which its installed (not with the phone that holds the number with which you registered).

      The people who messaged you are probably people who have your number saved on THEIR phone, and they received a notification that you now installed Viber.

    I have Viber installed in Mountain Lion and [many times] have had no problem activating it. However, every time I turn on my laptop and access Viber, it says something like the activation is no longer valid and asks me to activate Viber again. This happen EVERY SINGLE TIME I restart or turn on the laptop. How to fix this?

    Hi, my wife have viber on her phone with her old postpaid number before. then when she unsubscribed to her postpaid line, just today someone registered with that number and all her messages etc.. cannot be retrieve on viber anymore.

    Does the new holder of the postpaid number retrieves all her messages or pictures etc. or it was already been deleted the moment when the other person registers with that number?

    Hi. I’m using Viber on The Iphone since a long time now. I’ve just installed the Windows version on my laptop. And after several hours, I’m still waiting for the activation code to be sent to my phone. I’ve put the right phone number, Viber is not disabled in my country. I wished they could call me and give me the activation code via call, but I dont know how to do.
